Here is a brief listing of the songs I heard on Top 40 radio as I was driving home from work last night:
And looking at it now, the first song excluded, this station was decidedly obsessed with "peak" 2000s stuff, well past the classic bubblegum pop/boy-girl band era. Granted this is only one radio station in one state in the US, but I am increasingly convinced that interest in this period is coming back.

Absolutely! I personally haven't noticed much of a change on Top-40 radio in my local area (as Top-40 stations here in Australia are formatted in a way that they play a mix of songs from the '80s to the present day), but it doesn't surprise me to hear that it is the case elsewhere. Mainstream nostalgia for the 2000s has really accelerated over the past 6-12 months.

Some signs of what nostalgia will be like in the 2020s (probably the early-mid 2020s).

Some signs of what nostalgia will be like in the 2020s (probably the early-mid 2020s). 90s stations are going away I wouldn't say they are, but rather, they are being merged with 2000s stations, in much the same way classic rock stations used to just have 60s and 70s songs, but now they have 80s and even some early 90s songs.

Sirius XM is an excellent example. Right now, they have an entire station called PopY2K dedicated to 2000s music. They also have a hard rock station called Turbo that plays 90s and 2000s songs. PopRocks also plays 90s and 00s pop rock. SiriusXM Fly plays 90s and 2000s rap. I could go on.
