A simple question: what song have you heard that starts of really strong and promising, but drops the ball later on?
The song that inspired this thread is from Avril Lavigne's recent album. It's my favourite song on the album but that chorus is like wet fart next to the amazing lyrics surrounding it. It could have really used some loud guitars. I'm hoping a rock band does a cover of this song because it would really do it justice.

Nice thread idea!
Many people regard this as one of the best songs Korn ever released, but to be honest, it has never done anything for me. I think it's starts off really promising, however it just becomes too repetitive for it's own good. I'm also not particularly a fan of Johnathon Davis' vocals in this either.
Whoever decided that it would be a good idea to include male vocals in "Under The Water" needs to be frowned upon. They completely ruin what is otherwise an absolute pop gem. Don't listen to 2:04 onwards.

Don't listen to 2:04 onwards. It’s interesting that you mentioned this song. I agree with you also. I really don’t mind this one by Merrill (I actually think this is better than her earlier stuff like “Mouth” which proved to be more popular). The backing vocals weren’t necessary in this instance at all as it definitely ruined an otherwise great song. Speaking of this, Chris Wilson (who did the backing vocals) actually passed away back in January.

It's not a terrible song at all, however it's definitely not as good as people make it out as being.

This is probably the best example I can think of.

This is probably the best example I can think of. Too many "na na na na's" for your liking? Personally, I think the outro to "Hey Jude" is great, although I can see how it could wear out it's welcome for some people.

Love the first two verses of this song, but it loses me with "Spelling is fun!!"

I don't particularly like "Me!" either, but to be honest, I actually like the addition of Brendon Urie's vocals in the song. Hearing Brendon's vocals sort of feels homely to me in a way, because it reminds me of the Mid-Late 2000s and makes me feel really nostalgic for my childhood. The lyrics are ridiculously cheesy though.

People used to make fun of him for his voice but it's funny how as time passes people give his voice the recognition it deserves. ESPECIALLY after you consider how atrocious the vocals on most rock songs are.

ESPECIALLY after you consider how atrocious the vocals on most rock songs are. Yeah, nostalgia is a funny thing really. It can definitely change your outlook on things. I've got to be honest, I used to actually loathe his vocals (as well as the vocalists of most of the other prominent Emo bands) and Panic at the Disco!'s music back when they were popular during the Mid-Late 2000s. It was nothing against him personally; it was just simply because he was such a prominent figure in the whole Emo scene and I didn't want to associate myself with it in any way. My overall opinion of Emo has changed over the past 6-12 months though. If "Me!" had of been released back in say, 2012 or 2013, I probably still would have passed off his vocals as not being any good. Now that 10+ years have passed, and Emo has been out of the spotlight for quite a long time now, my whole viewpoint has entirely changed. As much as I might not like to admit it, the Emo scene was one of the biggest defining trends of my childhood and hearing Brendon Urie's vocals in a current pop song in 2019 does feel quite homely for me personally, regardless of my feelings towards his music.

I never liked Panic at the Disco back in the 2000s either but I actually like them now. That's fair enough. In all honesty, I still don't particularly like Panic at the Disco! or Fall Out Boy ("This Ain't a Scene" is the only song of theirs which I think is half-decent). I've just never been able to get into them, for some reason. My Chemical Romance were personally the band that I disliked the least at the time and now I think they were genuinely a good band. "Famous Last Words" would actually have to be one of my favourite songs from 2007.
