I know we have the "You're experiences with the Emo scene" thread, however I wanted to create a topic which focuses on a band who were one of the leading figures in the Emo cultural scene; My Chemical Romance. One thing I've noticed not just in recent times, but also back when the Emo scene was popular, is that My Chemical Romance generally doesn't receive the same amount of criticism as the other prominent bands of that scene (e.g Fall Out Boy). It appears as though people have began to appreciate them more as time has went on. In fact, "The Black Parade" has a rating of 3.27 on Rate Your Music, which is actually pretty impressive for one of the defining albums of a genre that was so derided and suffered from a huge backlash. What is your opinion of My Chemical Romance? How would you compare their releases to the other Emo/pop-punk bands of their era, such as Paramore, Panic at the Disco! etc. ?
IMO, My Chemical Romance was the best band to come out of the Mid-Late 2000s Emo movement. Like a lot of other people, I've only began to appreciate their music very recently, largely in part due to myself developing a sense of nostalgia towards the pop-punk/Emo songs from when I was a kid (it pains me to say that ). I was never a fan of My Chemical Romance back in the Late 2000s and that's simply because they were associated with the Emo scene. Honestly, if their music/image hadn't of suffered from that stigma, I probably would have got into their music at the time. Gerard Way is genuinely a good vocalist and many of their songs have impressive guitar riffs as well. I also feel as though MCR stayed more true to their punk/pop-punk roots than the other Emo bands of the Mid-Late 2000s. This is personally my favourite song of theirs:
