As the title suggests, what is your favourite sub-genre of rock music?
My personal favourite sub-genre of rock is alternative-rock. I'm not sure why this is, but alternative-rock has always resonated with me in a way that other genres of music simply haven't. It feels as though it is the genre of music that I can connect with and relate to the most. Of course, that's not to discredit other genres in anyway, however I have always appreciated the more stripped-back, down to earth nature of alt-rock.

I know that it has a decent size following here in the West, but I've just never understood it's popularity. I had a friend in High School who was right into Japanese rock as well (One Ok Rock was one of his favourite bands). He played me a couple of OOR's songs once and while I didn't think the songs were terrible, there was very little about them which really stood out to me.

I had a lot of Asians in my school, so I guess I was into the same bands they were. Definitely emo and pop-punk rock was becoming less interesting by the year at the time. I was also exposed to it as a kid, whenever I went to Asia, the Digimon and Dragon Ball GT theme songs were in Japanese instead of English, and I always liked the Japanese theme songs more. Overall, Japanese rock feels more high energy to me. I listen to it just to hear that loud guitar, it pumps me up! It's the only genre I turn the volume up to 11, but I have to stop myself since it's already too loud

Yeah, I've heard that the high energy feel is one of the biggest appeals of Japanese rock. It doesn't really do anything for me personally, but everyone is different.

As far as quantity I'd say metal but from a mere rock specific sector I'd say blues inspired rock.

Alt-rock. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, R.E.M., Radiohead, and System of a Down are my favorite bands from that genre.
