Well another reason I don't like the year I was born is because my siblings and cousins mainly born in the first half of 90's so I couldn't experience childhood with them, that's so awful......

But you would have been able to experience the music of the Late '90s? You were 7 years old in 1999. I know that it varies from person to person, but I started to become aware of chart music in Late 2002, just before I turned 4. By the time I was 7 years old, I was well aware of the current chart music of the time and the most popular songs. Even though you were in your childhood during the '90s, you would have been old enough to be truly aware of the music at that time, especially during the Late '90s. Well, exactly, I was only 7 years old. Almost everything that I listened to in my mom's minivan was kid's music like Red Grammer. I didn't start getting truly exposed to proper pop music until the early 2000s, when Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys were huge, we had the soundtracks for Shrek and The Parent Trap '98, and my mom bought Now 8. Prior to 2000/2001-ish, there were maybe only a few pop songs that I distinctly remember or recognized years later when I heard them again. Most of what my mom listened to aside from our Red Grammer tapes was adult contemporary music that was completely transparent to me at the time. These here are like the only pop songs I genuinely remember hearing back in the '90s: * Spice Girls - Wannabe * R. Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly * Barbra Streisand & Bryan Adams - I Finally Found Someone * Take That - Back for Good * Blues Traveler - Run-Around (specifically because of that harmonica solo) * Sixpence None the Richer - There She Goes * Natalie Imbruglia - Torn * Madonna - Ray of Light * Martina McBride - Valentine * Sarah McLachlan - Building a Mystery * The Offspring - Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) * C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) Even though I had heard these songs, the first was the only one for which I knew both the artist and the song title. I just wasn't in the loop yet to know otherwise. I had absolutely no knowledge of songs like "The Boy Is Mine," "I'll Be Missing You," "Believe," "No Scrubs," "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," "One Week," "Genie in a Bottle," or so on back when they were brand new, even though their chart success implies I should've heard them plenty. 7 years old was just too young for me to be truly, fully exposed to the world of music, especially since I had no older siblings. It's strange that even at 7 years old you weren't really aware of pop culture, or music as you stated. Although, you said you had no older siblings which wouldn't have helped, if I didn't have two older sisters I probably would have missed out on a lot more of the 2000s pop culture that I experienced. Even in Preschool I was aware of alot of the songs becasue my sister would by the Now CDs at the time and would just repeat them over and over again lol. For Chirstmas 2002 my uncle all gave us discmans even though I was only about to turn 3 and my sister gave me an album to listen to now I know all those songs lol. By the time I was 7 I knew most top songs and artists. Then, there are some songs from back then that when I hear I recognise that I've heard it, but i have no particular memory attached to it I just know that I've heard it lol.

I wonder why your uncle would buy you a Discman just before you turned 3? He probably did it so you wouldn't be left out, but that's very young! On that last point, that's pretty much how I feel about a few songs released in 2002. For example, "Lifestyle for the Rich and the Famous" by Good Charlotte seems familiar to me, even though I have no memory of when that song was released. It might be a subconscious thing.

1993 is good. Got to see the turn if the millennium. Being a Pokémon kid was fun. I'm okay with being a late 2000s teen since it meant I got to be a 2010s adult. Agree with this 💯%. I loved watching Pokémon also. While growing up and going through school in the late 90s-early 2000s, I used to rush home and watch it every afternoon without fail! Times felt so much easier back then. I actually still own all the recordings I made on tape back then! Haha, I was the same! Rush home, watch Pokémon, then play the bug catching competition on Pokémon Silver, then go to my basement and play Pokémon Stadium. Pokémon was life Do those tapes still have the advertisements, and all those other things? Seeing the toy ads is a real trip down memory lane. Cassette Walkmans, disposable cameras, and of course the dreaded Furbies Actually, to stay on topic, I distinctly remember when I was a kid, I wished I was born 20 years later so I could play with virtual reality Pokémon and fly on my own Charizard. 2020 is only two years away and I don't think we'll get VR Pokémon by then. Shame!

I'm actually the same. I didn't hear too many '90s songs on my own. I remember hearing a few at school parties but that's it. 2000 is when I started hearing more pop songs because my 10 year old cousin was into teen pop and we started watching The Hitlist together (Canadian '90s/early 2000s music show). But it wasn't really till 2003 when I became more immersed in music. I discovered Yahoo! Music and that's where I listened to most late '90s tunes (mostly pop punk). When I want to be musically transported to my personal '90s, I usually listen to Disney movie OSTs or video game music (especially Ocarina of Time).

Shame! I was never really able to get into Pokémon. My older cousin was massively into Pokémon and I tried to get into when I was 10, but I just couldn't. I've never been a fan of anime though. It doesn't worry me that I missed out on the Pokemon hype of the Late '90s!

Cassette Walkmans, disposable cameras, and of course the dreaded Furbies Haha, yup! Pokémon Stadium kept me entertained for many hours, even when I was supposed to be doing homework. The 90s were soooo good (particularly the latter part)! Yeah, they contain some ads for some of the Pokémon movies that had just released into the cinemas along with one for Pokémon trading cards you could collect in certain products back then. I’d have to check whether they featured those others you mentioned. I was never really able to get into Pokémon. My older cousin was massively into Pokémon and I tried to get into when I was 10, but I just couldn't. I've never been a fan of anime though. It doesn't worry me that I missed out on the Pokemon hype of the Late '90s! That’s fair enough, each to their own. Pokémon is about the only anime I was able to get into for some reason. I never took to Digimon, Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh! etc. which in the early days also aired on morning kids show Cheez TV before later moving to the afternoons.

I, on the other hand, was probably the most influenced by music I heard when I was below the age of 6, along with what I listened to as a teenager. BTW, I remember said song too, but from 1999 or 2000, when I had this karaoke VCD. (At least I think it was this one.) And I actually remember No Scrubs. I saw its music video in my aunt's house.

The 90s were soooo good (particularly the latter part)! Yep. I think it would have been great to experience the '90s at any age, whether it be through childhood, adolescence or adulthood. I was never able to get into Digimon, Dragon Ball Z or Yu-Gi-Oh either. Oh well.

I do now more than I did back when I was younger. Growing up with my older cousin (who is born in 1992) I used to wish I was a little older in order to witness the first generation of pokemon, the wwf attitude era, 5th generation of consoles and having a Gameboy Color. Being born in 96, I feel like I got to experience the last scarps of 90s culture since I was in elementary school in the early 2000s. When I got to college I started being around more younger people (usually born around 2000) and they would tell me that "Oh wow you had a Gamecube", "I wish I had a fliphone" or "I wished I was old enough to remember the older generations of pokemon". Just today a couple of 2003 born kids said to me "Life is like a videogame since I was born in 2003, my graphics are bad" and another kid said to me "Your graphics are 8-bit" and I said "I"m 64-bit get it right".

Like everyone else, I wish I were a couple years older. But its not that big of a deal to be honest. At least I can say I grew up in the first decade of the 21st century and remember a time before smart phones. Plus, 2001 is a cool sounding year!

Yeah smartboi. Being a 2000s kid is pretty cool especially if you got to experience it in it's entirety by memory.
