What is your overall opinion of the Foo Fighters? Would you call yourself a fan of their music or do you only like a small number of songs? Do you prefer the Foo Fighters or Nirvana?
IMO, the Foo Fighters are a great band overall and Dave Grohl is of course, such an incredibly huge talent, however I wouldn't actually call myself a fan of their music. Their post-2000 output doesn't interest me in the slightest, with the only exceptions being "One" and "Walk". I can't say that I was ever right into the Foo Fighters when I was a kid. I really liked "Generator" (my Uncle introduced me to that song when I was 7), but the vast bulk of their songs just came across as generic, "radio-rock" to me.
To me, the Foo Fighters debut album is better than the rest of the albums in their discography. A lot of music critics and Foo Fighters fans consider The Colour and the Shape (which contains songs such as "Everlong", "My Hero" & "Monkey Wrench") to be the band's best album and while I won't deny the fact that it features a lot of great songs, I personally think their debut offering is the more interesting and creative album overall.
For starters, you have excellent tracks like "Alone + Easy Target" and "Exhausted" which harken back to Dave Grohl's time during Nirvana, as well as some absolute gems in "This is a Call", "I'll Stick Around" and "Big Me". Another aspect in which I really like about the album is that apart from the guitar chords in "X-Static", everything was composed by Dave. The writing, the drumming, the guitars; all Dave.
I'm personally more of a fan of Nirvana. No offence to Dave (as he is very talented in his own right), but his Foo Fighters material has never topped the songs that he did with Kurt and Krist.
