A general discussion thread for cars that are frequently spotted on the road. Do you see certain car models on the road more than others? What would you say is currently the oldest era of cars which are still commonly found on the road today?
I see quite a lot of Nissan Qashqai's and Hyundai Tuscon's when I am out and about. Mitsibushi ASX's used to be reasonably popular as well, although I haven't spotted as many on the road over the past 6-12 months or so.
As for the oldest era of cars which are still commonly found on the road, I would probably go with cars from the Early 2000s. Cars from the Mid-Late '90s could still be spotted on the road occasionally back in the Mid 2010s, but I actually haven't seen as many on the road in recent years. Maybe it's just the area I live in.

I would say late 90s cars are the oldest cars that are still common. There are still a ton of 1997-2001 Toyota Camrys driving around where I am. As for the common cars I see on the road today, I would say maybe the Toyota Prius and Ford Ranger.

It's interesting to hear that you see a lot of Toyoto Prius' where you live, because I honestly can't remember the last time that i saw one when I was out and about. They're just don't seem to be that common here. Camrys and Rav-4s, on the other hand, are everywhere, lol. Re Late '90s cars: To be honest, '90s cars in general haven't become rare to see yet. I even saw a 1993-95 model Holden Commodore on the road when I traveled up to near Lithgow a few days ago!

Great idea for a page! I would have to say down in Melbourne I see plenty of what you would expect (Toyota Rav-4s, Camry's, Corolla's) Mazda's (3's/CX-5's), Honda's, Kia's and so fourth. It is also important to note that Melbourne doesn't have a lot of utes, like other states which use them for mining and heavy duty work. As for older cars, Victoria holds an average of around 10.1 Years, (for comparison, ACT is 9.1, NSW is 9.4 and Tas is 14.0) I see plenty of 90s, 2000s Corolla's, Camry's. Also, Astra's are still very common as are Commodore's, Falcon's & Laser's. 323/3's are also common as well as Magna's which are still standing well. Selling around 90,000 in the first two generations (1997-2006), Honda CR-Vs are still incredibly common despite selling less than most of the makes on the list above. Even more interestingly, selling each around 30-40,000, the Mazda Tribute & Mitsubishi 380 are still surprisingly common, but it is a good thing.

You are really knowledgeable on your cars, mate. I really only know the very basics to keep me out of mischief. You have only got to see the amount of old clunkers on a daily commute. People are so poor they hold onto their cars for as long as possible.

I have some mates who are obsessed with cars and love everything to do with them, too. So I can just imagine you’d get along with them very well, lol.

That's something I have taken notice of every single time I have gone on a holiday down to Tasmania. It's amazing how many old cars are still on the roads down there, especially in the North-West. Driving around parts of East Devonport can feel like stepping back in time.
