Wow just a few more years after the 2001 photos and this much fresher for me. That’s what going from age six to ten will I do, I guess. But also the styles and overall vibe. This is pure 2000’s in all its excess and try-hard edge and camp that’s totally not self aware. A little bit 80’s, in retrospect? The “Mean Girls” era, perhaps the “Simple Life”? That probably sounds like disapproval but actually, not at all. There are things I wouldn’t trade compared to now, sure, but the vibe is just fun with a dash of hedonism. This is actually getting far back enough for me I’m ready for a little bit of it to come back.

So much camp from 2004 lol

I had just started high school that month. This is such a vivid memory for me, and these photos really brought it to life.
Side note: Is it just me, or are JT and I the oldest people here?

Side note: Is it just me, or are JT and I the oldest people here? Nope, we do have a few members who are older than you and John Titor. skullmaiden and mh were born in 1985 and 1987 respectively, although they're not regular posters on the forum unfortunately. Paul, mediaexpert, mamafrankie, lamnchen and fanofdorks are also older than the two of you. You might find this list interesting. It's a list of the birthyears of members on Popedia (it does need updating though). popedia.boards.net/post/38446/thread

Whoa! I didn’t know we had people born in the ‘60s here!
For what it’s worth, I’m 1990 in case it’s not already known (I can’t be arsed to check if I put that on my profile).

These certainly take me back. The kick off of my senior year. My parents had got me my first used car a few months before so I didn't have to have them take me to school. Couldn't afford an MP3 player yet so I was still going to school with a huge CD player hoping my teachers didn't take it up. Didn't have a mobile phone yet either. Still had to use the school pay phone. Hadn't heard of MySpace yet. These were some of the latest days before social media took off. Things still had a pretty old school vibe because of that. Going to the mall was still the thing, and most of the kids didn't have broadband yet, so we didn't go online a whole lot. Playing video games was still done locally. It shouldn't be 15 years ago, but it also does kinda look like it because of how much has changed since then.

It hits home! Only, I think a pic of the Gameboy SP is absent. 2004's vibe was fresh, warmth felt and fascinating. Its one of the most aesthetically 2000s years.

Random question but do you know @john Titor if these photos were taken digitally or with film? Looks like a combination to me.

This was around the time when I started Kindergarten(which was one month earlier but still). A completely different time. I wanna say 2004 as a whole was one of the last years where it feels 100% disconnected to the current(2020) world. Everything feels so much different these days. From the Technology, the Atmosphere, Video Games, Movies, TVs, Music. A lot has changed since 2004.

From the Technology, the Atmosphere, Video Games, Movies, TVs, Music. A lot has changed since 2004. You're not wrong! When I think back to the memories I have of 2004 and what life in general was like back then, it truly feels as though it was a completely different world. For instance, I can remember receiving a stereo system as a present from my Dad on my 5th birthday (which I still have) and it has a cassette slot at the bottom. I used to even use a portable cassette recorder just to record myself playing on the drums. Nowadays, all you would need is a smartphone and that's it, lol. Welcome to Popedia by the way!
