Despite the fact that 2015 was a very strong year for music, from what I can recall it was mostly a bland year for pop culture. Like I dont remember any big pop cultural events happening that year in comparison with 2014/16/17. In 2014, mobile gaming was still big and I remember one of the biggest trends that year being flappy bird, I also remember all those ebola and MH370 memes and references. For 2016 you had stuff like Pokemon Go, bottle flipping, mannequin challenge and the 2016 election itself being a pop cultural event...2017 had "despacito", Nintendo switch, fidget spinners etc.
Can anyone remind me what were some of the big pop cultural events of 2015?

I can't remember the name of it right now, but there was a game on Android (it was some sort of horror game) that was a huge fad back in 2015. Some of my friends would play it during break and plenty of other kids did as well. The "noot noot" Pingu meme was pretty popular back then too, as was "dabbing". In retrospect, 2015 generally wasn't as memorable for pop-culture as what other '10s years were, however it did have a few unique fads/trends of it's own.

Actually, come to think of it, I remember playing that on my phone during gym class and lots of other people and youtubers were playing it so yeah, you could definitely count that. Also, now I remember there was that brief black/blue or white/gold dress instagram pic craze...do you remember?

So you were playing FNAF in class when you should have been doing something very, very important like gymnastics instead? Jeez, how could you do such a thing. You know that gym class is the most important subject in high school to do well in, don't you? Yeah I can actually! I just wasn't sure if it was from 2015 or 2016.

2015 is far from bland. I consider it to be the best year in music of the 2010s. The movies are pretty great too, aside from Minions and Fifty Shades.

2015 was the Fifty Shades obsessed, What color is that Dress? crazed, Hoverboards invaded, Uptown Funk-filled, LGBTQ+ progressing, smart watches welcoming, Whip Nae Nae dancing year
In short, 2015 is rightfully the epicentre of the 2010s

I would personally consider 2015 to be the definitive year of the 2010s. It's probably also the year where I felt as though I was the most in-tune with what was going on in music and I feel as though people around my age (or Late '90s babies in general) were the core target audience for pop-culture at the time. Speaking of "Whip Nae Nae", I actually decided to listen to that song a few days ago as I was feeling a bit nostalgic for 2015 and as you could imagine, it hasn't aged well whatsoever. It's pretty cringeworthy to listen to now. Some not so great memories of Year 10 came flooding back to me... I never liked it, but there were a lot of kids in my year group who did and I can remember them playing the song too death on their phones.

2015 is to the 2010s what 2005 is to the 2000s. It is literally the most 2010s year of the decade, with 2014 probably being a close second. The songs were horrible, but I do have to give credit with the movie scene. It was pretty good that year.

Honestly, looking back at 2015, I was surprised by how little I hate it. Yeah, it had the Minions trend, and yeah, it had Silento being...Silento, but I'm shocked at how good movies, music, and gaming was this year. We had artists like Twenty One Pilots and Adele being popular, movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron, Inside Out, and easily the best (and only great) Disney-era Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, and games like Undertale, COD Black Ops 3, and ESPECIALLY Bloodborne. I'm pretty cynical of 2010s pop culture in general, so why don't I hate 2015? Perhaps it was due to it being a transitional year. It escaped the cringy hedonistic dumbed-down "Swag" culture of the early 2010s, AND the SJW-filled, nostalgia-obsessed, soulless, and downright trash late 2010s. 2015 had neither really, so you had genuinely decent music for once combined with some pretty good movies (except Minions and Fifty Shades of Gray of course, as somebody else pointed out). Even kid culture, Steven Universe was in its prime, Nickelodeon was finally improving (Harvey Beaks came out this year), etc. It's actually probably my second favorite year of the decade behind 2010.

Don’t forget Trivia Crack which was huge in early 2015. I won’t deny that 2015 had unique fads of their own. I believe 2015 as a whole or the second half of 2015 was a watered down 2014. 2015 was when the mid 2010s began to feel obnoxious, dragged out, stale and long in the tooth. As unpopular as this sounds. I consider 2014 to be the most 2010s year, the peak of the mid 2010s, core 2010s and the 2010s decade. 2015 comes in second and 2016 comes in third. 2015 wasn’t my favorite year. I didn’t like 2015, except for maybe the second half which began my senior year in high school and me getting my driver’s license. I would never want to return or trade where I am now for then. Let’s face it. At 22 years old soon to be 23 years old in 2021, I cringe at the person I was at 16 and 17 years old in 2015. I believe that 2015 is overrated and overhyped along with maybe 2010, but definitely 2012 and 2013, compared to other 2010s years. 2014 and 2016 were better, more exciting and interesting years. Possibly 2010, but definitely 2012, 2013 and 2015 were bland and boring years.

Arguably the peak of Vine (if not, 2014), Watch Me Whip, Hotline Bling, Trap Queen, dabbing (also 2016), EDM, Five Nights At Freddy's...

it was very boring and bland a nothing burger year in terms of pop culture. Star Wars coming out at the end of the year was cool.
Oh and Hipster was inescapable at the time, Coffee shop with light bulb hanging down inescapable.
Hated 2015
