Right now, it has become oppressively conservative, religious, and hateful. If you aren't a white straight conservative Christian you are a deviant animal who needs to just shut up and stop being a "snowflake." This is my least favorite era of my entire life. The western world in general is going through a right-wing phase at the moment. Here in Australia, the conservative Scott Morrison was re-elected as PM back in May and now it's looking like the UK may end up with Boris Johnson as their Prime Minister. 2019 is definitely more socially and politically conservative than what the Mid 2010s were.

A big part of me feels like we may be headed towards a Handmaid's Tale type situation here in the US. It's a frightening time to live unless you fit a specific profile.
I would also say the late '10s is very baby boomer focused as opposed to Millennials and Gen Z. This era doesn't have the kind of youthful energy I remember from the early '10s or even mid '10s.

Yeah, in a sense, it almost feels as though the Late 2010s are the Baby Boomers last-ditch attempt to try and grip onto power and influence.

Bump
We are definitely not in the the core 2010s. Taylor Swift isn’t a hitmaker anymore, Post Malone is the main pop artist now, and TikTok memes are influencing popculture.

Gacha Life has mostly replaced Vyond as well for 8-15 year old YouTubers.

We left the Core 2010s in September 2017 imo, that month had a ton of pop culture changes if you paid attention.

IKR, so many stuff happened around mid-late 2017: -Fortnite: Battle Royale -Rockstar solidifying Post Malone's stardom -The reveal of iPhone X -The second of Stranger Things -Bodak Yellow introducing Cardi B -The rise of Soundcloud rap -Mi Gente -Havana making Camila Cabello a star -The remodeled Youtube logo -The Nintendo Switch -Taylor Swift's Reputation In mid 2016-early 2017, there were seeds of late 2010s culture being planted, making it a transitional period and the late 2010s as we know it went full force by mid/late 2017.

This is gonna be controversial and kinda decadeology, but to me even 2009 felt more 2010s than 2019 does. I think when we all look back on the 2010s, many more "2009" things will come to mind than 2019 things: Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Avatar, Obama, iPhones, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead etc. (in addition to some 2008 things like The Dark Knight and the 2008 election)
In contrast, the most 2010s thing out this year I can think of might be the Avengers movie. Even most the core 2010s shows are long over, and the last season of Game of Thrones we are all collectively pretending didn't happen. I've been feeling this way since the summer, but I wanted to give it a few more months. Now that we're in October I'm becoming more certain that 2019 will either be sidelined compared to the other 2010s years or be associated with the 2020s (that's yet to be determined).

I was actually reading some astrology not sure if you are into it but apparently 2020 will be a reboot year of culture, in that is has a NEW feeling. This is from reddit which kind of has to do with it. "If there's any correlation to the current period, it is probably the late 1930's. Uranus was also in Taurus during that period, with Saturn and Pluto in hard aspect. It was an era of large gaps in wealth and political inequality and increased geopolitical tensions defined by new rising powers, autocratic leadership, and intractable trade problems. Given that over the next 10 years, we have seven outer planet cycles concluding, it is a big possibility that human civilization is going to get a big reboot over the coming years, starting with next year, when both Saturn/Pluto and Jupiter/Saturn conjunct, the latter at zero degrees Aquarius, signaling a new beginning in our political and economic development. Whether that augers for war or revolution remains to be seen, but the environment is sure to remain unstable as technological change disrupts entire societies." The 2010s have felt disconnected since atleast late 2017, and if these astrological alignments are true it looks like about to get even more disconnected.

Things that I feel set November 2016 and onward apart from the core '10s:
1. Stranger Things - Although the first season was released in fall 2016, this was a sign of things to come, such as a more powerful push of '80s nostalgia. 2. The end of some classically '10s shows, such as Game of Thrones (2019) and Adventure Time (2018). Adventure Time all but defined the core '10s for many people - not just kids (some who were in elementary school but would now be starting college), but some adults like myself as well. It had been running since 2010, so it's little wonder that it should be seen that way. 3. The Nintendo Switch - I don't think it's an exaggeration to say this has changed things not only for Nintendo, but for console gaming as a whole. 4. Lo-fi - Acts like Post Malone and Rex Orange County. 5. Speaking of Rex, bedroom pop is becoming "the thing the kids listen to." And by kids, I mean Gen Z. Oh yeah, and bedroom pop is an overwhelmingly Gen Z genre, making this the first step in them taking over production of pop cultural works. 6. The politics, obviously. It seems like the entire world order is falling apart, and I'm not just talking about the child concentration camps here in the U.S.; China is repressing Hong Kong and committing genocide against the Uyghur Muslims, India has begun committing genocide of Kashmiri Muslims, the U.S. has betrayed the Kurds, Brazil is burning the Amazon, and it seems like there is no longer a secure, liberal international world order anymore. It's falling into anarchy. 7. This one is much more subtle, but the fashion seems like an '00s throwback now. I saw a kid wearing a beanie and sweatshirt with long sleeves and fingerless gloves at the end - that's like right out of 2007 as it is.
Just a few I could think of off the top of my head. Anybody got others?

2019 is def a split year, and the split happened around Mid/June to early July, the whole vibe felt different. Like as I am typing this I am baffled that what happened earlier this year is in the same timeline.

Can we please not get bogged down in discussing "vibes" and whether or not 2019 is a split year. Sorry, but that's decadeology in it's purest form and it is banned on Popedia. Thanks.

This one is very subjective but I felt like we got out of the core 2010s around September 2018 with the rise of Billie Eilish, decline of EDM, and the climax of the MCU, but you guys could say it ended around September 2017, I felt a small shift there as well thanks to Cardi B and Fortnite.
