I like to keep the window open on these temperate spring days and summer nights, especially when it's cool (15c-20c or 60f-68f) outside. Sadly the rest of my family relies solely on the air conditioner or heating to regulate the house's temperature. It's especially awful in spring when you have a hot day followed by a cold day. Yesterday it was 27°C (82°F) and the AC was on full blast. Even though temperatures plumetted overnight my family insisted on having the AC going, and now it's only 14°C the next day and it's freezing cold in the house, and the heater has to go on. I'm certain that's not good for the long term health of the furnace. You should have seen the electricity bill last summer (which I have to pay), it was $700

I know this sounds awfully pedantic, but I generally only keep the windows down if i'm doing less than 80 km/h. If i'm going any faster than that (e.g like on a motorway), leaving the windows down just sounds like you're going through a "wind tunnel" and it sounds horrible. I prefer to have the air conditioning on anyway.

The UV rays from the sun are also enough to dissuade me. lookingthroughwindowsdoesnthavetobescary That reminds me of the song of the year which was released on the album of the year

I guess that's what happens when you're making new posts during the early hours of the morning. Sorry, i'll make a proper response to the thread tomorrow.

Unless theres a crazy rain storm in which case my PC right next to my window will get water damage (happened before), otherwise yeah I pretty much have my window open all year round.

Okay, take two. I voted for "rarely". I always open my bedroom window for ventilation (regardless of what time of year it is), but I only open up the window near my loungeroom recliner when there's a nice cool breeze on a warm day. Our house generally has pretty good ventilation. We just have the front screen door closed when we're home. Apart from having air conditioners, one other benefit is that we also have insulation installed in our roof, so it also moderates the air temperature throughout the loungeroom.
