I can't believe we don't have a thread about this already. In terms of your personal life and your overall opinion of pop culture, what is your favourite year of the 2000s and why?
Personally, I love 2007. What a great year to have been 8 years old! Not only was it the year where I fell in love for the first time and was introduced to my close friend (who I am still friends with today), but I also went and saw Linkin Park live at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. That was such a great experience. Linkin Park were my favourite band at the time, so to have had the opportunity to go and see them live is something that was truly a memorable event for me. I always really like the overall feel/vibe that pop culture had at the time. Rock was still perceived as something that was cool and edgy, which, as a huge rock fan myself, was great to have witnessed. 2007 also had a number of good movie releases as well. I went and saw The Simpsons Movie and Transformers when they were released to cinemas. I also really liked Spider-Man 3 as well, although I didn't see that at the cinemas. I've always been a bit dissatisfied with the era in which I experienced my childhood (ultimately, I would have liked to have been born ten years earlier and experienced my childhood in the '90s), but 2007 is the one year in which I am glad that I got to experience it at the age that I was. I wouldn't have it any other way. Some of my favourite songs from that year include: {Spoiler}

None really, but if pushed, I would say 2009.
My favourite songs of 2009 are 'It's Rockin' by Kareena Kapoor and 'Hall Ut' by Tomas Ledin. They are the only ones I actually remember as 2009 music was as crap as that from between 2000-2008 and since 2009.

2004 was fun. Completely airheaded but great fun.

That's actually tough, because for the most part I like every '00s year, but I would probably have to go with 2000.
That's sort of like my last year of childhood, given that I was 12 early during the year, and I look back on that era so fondly. Playing PlayStation games over at my buddies house, watching Kids WB and Toonami, watching the TRL countdown, WWF Raw being a huge deal, going online with slow dial-up to look up video game cheat codes. Those were the days.
There's quite a few more years that are close to 2000 nostalgically, but if I were to pick the year I miss the most, that would probably be my choice.

I'm gonna go with 2009 because not only do I actually remember the year, but it also had good music as well.

2007 had the best music! Avril Lavigne, Amy Winehouse, & Britney Spears released great songs that year. It was probably one of the most noteworthy years for music during the 2000s. 2007 was also the last big hurrah for rock music in general, as after 2007, it gradually started to decline.

I think out of all those years I hold 2003 pretty dearly the most since it was by far the most carefree time in my life when school was just pure amusement to me and it was before the responsibilities of being a big brother came into play (my little sister was born in 2005) !

2006 for me, hated by a lot of people on here but I loved that year. It was the year i finally had cable tv, turning 10 was pretty big for me, playing my Nintendo ds, remember watching wwe raw for the frist time that year and seeing the return of Jeff Hardy, D Generation X and watching Edge and John Cena rival each other, remember how disappointed people were with the ps3 but remember how hyped the wii was as well. 2006 was definitely when my childhood peaked.

2006 was definitely when my childhood peaked. It's interesting that you consider age 10 to have been the peak of your childhood. I guess everyone's experiences vary, but for me personally, I feel as though I had already become too "grown up" by that point for it to ever be considered as being the peak of my childhood.

I guess it has a lot of to with age and upbringing. 2006 may not rank high for a lot of people but being 10 in 2006 I was young enough to enjoy kid stuff but old enough to really appreciate it and plus 2006 was still when CN and Nick had decent cartoons and it was the year when i was somewhat into pop culture since I remember some of the some of the hit songs that year like Beyonce Upgrade U, Sean Paul Temperature, Rhianna SOS, etc. It was a funtime to be a kid. Glad I was at the right age to enjoy it.

Just looking at the results, I think it's interesting how 2001 hasn't received a single vote. I know it's a year that wasn't without it's negative points, but it was arguably the strongest year for music in the 2000s and there was a lot to like about the pop culture at the time as well.
