We're half-way through 2019 and only six months off from the start of the 2020s, so I thought this might make for a good topic.
What is your overall opinion of 2019? Have you liked the songs, movies etc. that have been released so far? Do you think you will look back on this year favourably or negatively?

Music has been good so far. As for movies, Toy Story 4 & Frozen 2 will be released soon. Can’t wait to watch!

I've been pretty underwhelmed by 2019 so far. There's little that I actually like about the current pop culture and perhaps the most frustrating thing about it is that there's very few signs which suggest that pop culture may be moving into a different trajectory. Trap is still hugely popular, while reboots are still the "in" thing in Hollywood at the moment.
We're desperately in need of some fresh, new ideas to help drive pop culture forward. Having Queen, Elton John and The Beatles biopics is great, but we should also be seeing more new original ideas in the movie industry. I want to see the next "Forrest Gump" or "Shawshank Redemption"; something new and original that will one day be regarded as a "classic" and will be remembered for many decades to come. That isn't going to happen if we keep pumping out pointless sequels and reboots like "Toy Story 4" or "Men In Black: International".
As it stands, I think 2019 will be remembered as being the breakout year for Billie Eilish and a new "alternative" culture which may or may not develop more in the next few years. She is definitely right at the forefront of the Top-40 music scene at the present time. A lot of people have been referring to Ava Max as the "next Lady Gaga", but I don't see it. I feel as though she is simply a "flash in the pan" and she will fall in popularity once her "unique image" loses it's novelty.

Hope not to sound overly dramatic. But I just wanted to say that even though we're only half way through this year, 2019 has been without a doubt the worst year of my life. My paternal Grandmother died in January this year becoming the first close relative I've ever really lost, and just recently one of my closest cousins also died from a heart attack. I've never felt more depressed and lonely either as I don't really have that many friends left to talk to at this point in life.

Pop culturally it might just be my favourite year of the 2010s. I love the music (not the charts, just stuff I'm listening to) movies, fashion, technology etc. Personal life wise, it's more middle of the road, maybe on the positive side. It's just that it's going to be hard to follow up on 2018 which was the best year of my life. Hope not to sound overly dramatic. But I just wanted to say that even though we're only half way through this year, 2019 has been without a doubt the worst year of my life. I hope we see change by the early 2020s, like around 2021 or 2022 to see new pop culture.

The same since 2017. Shitty and unoriginal.

Reminds me a lot of 2007 in so many different ways, almost to the point of deja vu. I do like the music though. I'd say 2017-19 is probably the best era for music of this decade. Coincidentally, both 2007 and 2019 are the "year of the pig" in astrology.

I can't really see too many similarities between the two, although I don't closely follow all of the trends in pop culture.

In what way does it remind you of 2007, just out of curiosity? I can't really see too many similarities between the two, although I don't closely follow all of the trends in pop culture. In my personal life it's almost as if I'm reliving 2007, right down to the people who have the most influence in my life, the tension with my family, future plans and uncertainty about them, the city I'm contemplating moving to, etc. People have come back into my life recently that haven't been significant in my life since 2007. I also loved the music in 2007 and I love it in 2019. 2007 for me was a very hip-hop focused year and 2019 is as well. 2007 and 2019 were both years of exploring new aspects of myself and pushing my boundaries and getting out of my comfort zone. 2007 and 2019 were both years of oppression in my personal life, years where I felt stuck and stifled by external forces that I can't control, yet it isn't permanent and there is hope for the future. Despise this hope, there's a lot of uncertainty and fear of things not working out. 2007 and 2019 are both years in which I'm making hard decisions that have needed to be made for a long time, but hopefully I'm a bit wiser this time around. 2007 and 2019 are both years of severe depression and introspection for me. I've struggled with depression most of my life but 2007 and 2019 have both been exceptionally severe. Also politically and economically, 2007 comparisons abound. Right now, the economy very much reminds me of 2007 and that isn't a good thing. There's a lot of uncertainty right now economically and 2020 looks to be a horrible year for the US economy. Nancy Pelosi is Speaker after a Democratic takeover of Congress, just like 2007. 2007 was a perilous year for the war in Iraq and it looks like 2019 is going to bring war in Iran. That's just from my own perspective though. The good thing about this is I know what to do and what not to do, and I'm acting accordingly.

This year has been great with great movies minus the child's play remake. I also got a switch this year and I really enjoy it.
