Let’s talk about one of the most polarizing trends of the mid/late 00’s....Crocs. Did you rock ‘em? Why do you think they got as popular as they did? What causes their extreme love and hate? Will they ever be fashionable again?

Fortunately I never owned a pair. I remember my step brother used to wear them though.

I didn't own a pair either; they are too "out there" for me. I can see them making a bit of a comeback in the Late 2020s/Early 2030s, as people will more than likely start to reminisce about them in the future.

I used to own a pair from around 10 years ago. I don't think they're out of fashion completely, but they definitely weren't as popular as they once were. I still see little kids wearing them.

Never wore them thankfully. I actually don't even remember them being all that popular. I think they looked nice on some of the girls at school though, the cutesy type that would wear headbands or ribbons on their head. I've never seen it look good on a man though.

I have a pair of light blue ones which I wear. I find them comfortable.
For the record, I couldn't give the proverbial about what is and isn't fashionable. I wear what I like and so should everyone else.

I know people who swear by them and love wearing them (a few friends as well) and think they’re very “fashionable”, but I personally think they are very uncomfortable and hideous to boot! They really shouldn’t be seen out in public either.

I rocked the Crocs pretty hard back in 06/07, along with every man woman and child. I initially got them as boat shoes so I wasn’t too bothered by the holes, though I know many found them ugly right off the bat. I liked the colors and was crazy for jibbitz. (I was so cool at 12 I know.) I remember a page being very popular on Facebook, probably in 2009/10, called “I don’t care how comfortable Crocs are, you look like a dumbass.” While they were fading from the mega popularity they had a few years prior, it was around this time that they were starting to get ridiculed. Meanwhile other styles of shoes made from Croc material were being created. I had these ballet flats in 09, until I succumbed to peer pressure and stopped wearing them lol. Interestingly Balenciaga has been trying to bring them back as high fashion (and obviously overcharge for them), but I don’t think it’s really catching on. Not enough time has passed for Crocs to be trendy and not just garden shoes again.

Update: Crocs were def big among the tween set this summer. Interestingly not so much with those older than like 14. I'm assuming they don't remember the first go around?

I haven't really seen crocs much recently, but then all the people here are university students and they tend to wear slippers more
I was probably around 8 or 9 I had a pair of imitation crocs that you buy at the pasarmalam for like $5, because the real ones were so pricey. They were really common around kids my age then, but then there was the scare about crocs getting trapped in the escalator and kids losing their feet because of that. Then crocs went out of trend
Now I do wear a pair of crocs around my hostel but they aren't the usual crocs, they look just like normal slippers.
