I kind of feel alone in this on this forum Audiobooks count. I've always been an avid reader. It provided me comfort when I was a kid on those cold winter days when I couldn't go outside. My parents took me to the library every week to borrow new books, and I haven't lost the habit into adulthood. In 2015, my New Year's Resolution was to read 50 books. I didn't succeed, as I got into learning French in the summer and I read French children books instead (and I didn't count them as full books). I read/listened to around 30 English books (and audiobooks) that year though. Easily my favourite New Years Resolution attempt ever!

I used to love reading non-fiction books when I was a kid. I started to get into reading when I was 7, which was the age when I began to take an interest in astronomy and history. As a result, i've got quite a lot of books on astronomy and evolution in my collection (I should post a photo of it sometime). I also loved reading the Guinness World Records books, as well as map books and books about the weather, the history of Disney and the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, I pretty much stopped reading once I started High School and I haven't really had the motivation to get back into it since.

Yes! I can't get enough of books and have 3 bookcases plus books that I cannot even fit on the bookcases. I have a bookcase with 2 empty shelves but they are bare as I am not tall enough to reach them. I have even taught people to read.
I just don't understand people who are not into reading.

I just don't understand people who are not into reading. For me personally, it's just trying to find the motivation to start reading a book from scratch. There's sort of no incentive for me to start reading my books again, when I could just research any information I wanted to search up on Google. Not only that, but the information would be more up-to-date as well.

Internet high five! What kind of books do you read? Me personally I like reading non-fiction, especially history books and biographies. When I read fiction books, I like to read books set at real life historical periods or during real-life major events. I just don't understand people who are not into reading. For me personally, it's just trying to find the motivation to start reading a book from scratch. There's sort of no incentive for me to start reading my books again, when I could just research any information I wanted to search up on Google. Not only that, but the information would be more up-to-date as well. The information isn't anywhere near as in-depth or organized, though. I could read every article on Nazi Germany on Wikipedia before it starts repeating itself and goes out of chronological order or skims over important elements, but a book series The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William L. Shirer never falls into that. It's also amazing to get the perspective of the person who was actually there (in this case, he was an American journalist in Nazi Germany). And if I'm not into the book in the first hour, I drop it. There are so many books on such a wide array of topics, I'm with @mamafrankie on not understanding people who don't read

Slowpoke, I want to marry you!
I prefer non fiction, although I do like the fantasy novels of Terry Pratchett (whom I once met at a book signing) and the thrillers of Dean Koontz. The bulk of my library is non fiction. I like reading about 20th century history and popular culture of same.

I hate admitting it, but I’m not the biggest reader. I’m picky. I do generally prefer non-fiction, particularly historical material. However, regardless of genre, I don’t usually dedicate myself to a book until I’m sure it will be worthwhile. Otherwise I can briefly flip through it or find a summary of the information online. Once I’m in though, I’m in, and I will read with great care, making it very special. If I dig the content, you’ve got me for life and I will recommend the crap out of it. Though it’s also a matter of prose. I cannot stand reading something if I sense the author is pretentious, stupid, bullshitting, etc.

The decline of reading among the general public doesn’t bode well for my dream to become published.

Yes I do. But it has to be a subject I’m interested in. I don’t really care much for fiction books. 😕
