Like the movie thread, we try listen to 25 albums in 2019. There is a tradition on another forum I go on to read 50 books, watch 50 movies and listen to 50 albums in a year (and watch 10 or 20 seasons of TV as a bonus challenge) It's pretty simple, with 27 weeks of the year left to go, we try to average roughly 1 album a week. Albums you already listened to in 2019 count. At the end of the year, I can make a leaderboard to see who survived the challenge and came out on top. Format: Make a post with the list of albums you have listened to this year. You edit and update this post whenever you listen a new album (don't make a new post). If you want to write a seperate post about the album specifically, you can do that, but try to keep the master list in one place (for record-keeping purposes). What counts as an album? Use your best judgement. I would say anything with at least 8 songs or is at least 25 minutes long counts as an album. Anything between 4-8 songs I usually count as a mini-album (0.5 points). The album can be from any year, it does not have to have been released in 2019. All that matters is you first listened to it in full in 2019. You can use these stars to rate the albums you have listened to. You can also mention your favourite and least favourite tracks. You can put country flags too to indicate language/country. ★ ★★ ★★★ ★★★★ ★★★★★

Can you tell that I've been listening to SOAD a lot lately? I'm planning on listening to My Chemical Romance's Black Parade in full for the first time in the next few days, so I will be able to add that to the list as well. It took you this long to listen to Meteora? I've been meaning to check out SOAD. If they're 5 star albums I'll have to check them out soon! You're in for a real treat with Black Parade. It's definitely a 5 star album! I'm kind of jealous you get to listen to it for the first time. My next album is most likely going to be Morbid Stuff by PUP. They're a punk band that's been making waves in Toronto lately. I'm about half way through it so far (I'm the kind of person that takes days to listen to a new album )

Haha, no, it's just the first time in a couple of years that I have listened to it. joy1 I was a massive fan of Linkin Park when I was younger. I rarely listen to them now, but their first two albums ( Hybrid Theory and Meteora) will always have a special place. You definitely should! All of System of a Down's albums are great, but I consider Toxicity and Mezmerize to be their best. I think you would like them. Toxicity would have to be one of the best rock albums of the 2000s. Lol. In a way, I feel as though i'm about to start listening to it as someone who knows next to nothing about My Chemical Romance, because i'm only familiar with the singles off that album (e.g "Famous Last Words", "Welcome to the Black Parade etc.). Hopefully i'll enjoy it.

I meant the challenge to be albums you listened to for the first time. 😳 I've listened to the entirety of Hybrid Theory a couple of years back. I'm ashamed to say when I was a kid I looked down on Linkin Park so I put off listening to their debut album for a long time. It's hit after hit on that album.

What didn't you like about them, just out of curiosity? Was it just because they were apart of the "Nu-Metal" scene? Yeah, Hybrid Theory is a pretty good album. IMO, it would have to be the best album that Linkin Park ever released.

I know I said I was going to listen to The Black Parade in the next few days, however I have had a bit of time to spare, so I decided to listen to it in the full and I've just finished doing so. Overall, it is a pretty decent album. It's not really something I can see myself returning too often, however I do like a lot of the guitar riffs and the songs themselves are generally well constructed. "This Is How I Disappear" has a great opening into. In any case, listening to the album makes me appreciate MCR more than I ever did in the past and all it does is reaffirm my opinion that they were the best band to come out of the Emo scene. They're all very talented. The only criticism I have with it is that many of the songs don't feel memorable to me. The singles, "This Is How I Disappear" (because of the intro) and "Cancer" all stand out for me, but I have a bit of a hard time remembering what "The End!" and "Dead!" were like. Also, "Teenagers" sticks out like a sore thumb. The song itself is pretty good, but it doesn't blend in well with the rest of the album and it should have only been released as a single.

Also, MCR does not like being called emo

Also, MCR does not like being called emo It's a difficult one. If you're listening to an album for the first time, I actually tend to think that it's best to listen to it from start to finish without stopping, because that's how it's intended to be listened to and it allows you to get a real feel for the album. It is easy to stop paying attention to the music though, like you mentioned. Lol. In my eyes, MCR will always be an "emo" band, even if they incorporate a lot of different influences.

I'm not surprised at all. I need to PM #Infinity as well, she might give you a run for your money if this is going to be a competition I think it would still be interesting if you made a list of the albums you listened to with a star rating (you can start from 0 if you think it would be too cumbersome to list them all). I'm always on the look out for new tunes

I’ll join but I will probably be taking my time, as I can be slow with processing new music. I can probably do faster paced albums a little bit easier since I can just blast them while on the treadmill.
I too joined “The Black Parade” today and finally gave the full album a listen. I have to say the deep cuts were good. While I can see why they weren’t made singles, and yes some tracks blend into each other while some stick out, it didn’t inhibit my enjoyment overall. I really appreciate how MCR balances serious and camp. Someone else’s attempt could come across as distasteful, but you’re really entering their little universe and it makes it all work.

Oh by the way SharksFan99 if you wanna give something super current and rock a listen, I'd rec you this British group called "black midi" which dropped an album called "Schlagenheim" a few days ago that is making waves with music communities lately Thanks for that, i'll make sure to check them out. I'm always up for some new rock. Speaking of new music, have you listened to Lil Nas X's debut EP at all? I decided to check it out as I had heard that Nirvana's "In Bloom" is interpolated into one of the songs. The EP is a strange mix of Trap, country, alt-rock and r&b. It's as if Lil Nas X is a jack of all trades, but a master of none. Yeah, that pretty much sums up my thoughts on it too. I feel as though the placing of "Teenagers" is the only real issue I have with the album. It just doesn't fit in with the narrative of the album and if MCR were insistent on it being included, it really should have been at the beginning (not right near the end). Other than that though, there's very little to fault with it. It's a shame really that the "Emo" label stopped the album from receiving the accolades and universal acclaim that it deserved at the time. I think a lot of the credit has to go to Gerard Way though. IMO, all of the band members are talented in their own right, but Gerard Way's vocals definitely add another dimension to the music. I don't think I would have enjoyed this if it had of been sung by a run-of-the-mill pop-punk singer.
