What a coincidence. I was trying on some of my clothes just now and there is this shirt that is quite long, so I tried tucking it in one of my baggier (slim straight) jeans and I thought it looked really 80s and really good. (not all too disimilar to the pic with the Tommy Hilfiger shirt) There is an dark orange sweater that I like tucking into my dark blue jeans too, but that is for the colder months. Overall I prefer mid/low rise, but high waisted is definitely trendy right now and I'm not complaining.

I voted "depends on the wearer", as I don't really have much of an opinion either way, to be honest.

When would everyone say the transition between low-waisted to high-waisted jeans took place? Maybe around 2011? I remember low-waisted jeans were still hugely popular back in 2008.

Yeah I think low waisted jeans died around 2010/2011 because they were impractical for smartphones. I would say around 2014/2015 for women and 2018/2019 for men is when high waisted jeans became popular, although I'm not sure about women.

Yeah I’d say the earliest you would’ve seen high waisted jeans for women would’ve been in 2011. It was mainly a hipster style at that time and if it was seen on males it would’ve been intentionally ironic. Honestly I quite liked jeans right at this time, once skinny legs had been fully adopted but wider ones weren’t unavailable like in the following couple of years. The last year for super lowrise and predominant sagging was probably 2008 maaaaybe 09, so most rises were actually not too extreme. The first few years of high rise being really common though, 2013-15 I’d say, they tended to still be quite skinny and form fitting. High rise for men seems to mostly be in the form of the “dad” worn by non hipsters no earlier than 2017, which seemed to get popular immediately after “mom” jeans did, aka the high skinny jean’s looser tapered relative.
Personal opinion time: Well, it depends. Most people look best somewhere in the middle. I don’t own a lot of high waisted pants or because they do fit me correctly thanks to my height. However I’ve seen few grown women that I thought looked genuinely great in the tapered 90’s style, mostly because I do not think they lay well in the front (like a diaper effect) and they tend to widen the rear. Men or girls with few curves they seem to be a lot more forgiving on. “Mom” shorts I think look much better. But hey, wear what you want or makes you feel good. Super low rise aren’t super super flattering either though. Ahh the 00’s and making everyone self-conscious about their “muffin top” that usually only existed because of too tight low riders. I am rooting for this style to come back mainly for variety and I’ll never get over my 00’s upbringing telling me it looks good. Just please no one inch fly, that was ridiculous. Look I’m all for body empowerment, I don’t even care about nipples, but for real I don’t need to see anyone’s public bone.
