The "yes" meme has been popular for quite a few years now. There were quite a few people at my high school who said it during my final two years. Typically speaking, it has become a common expression to say when someone is asking a question that you want to avoid. It has actually become so popular that not only is it popular within the online community, but it has even made it's way into pop culture as well (e.g "Earfquake"). Here are a couple of examples of it: I'm just curious to know, how did it even come about? Also, how long would you say it has been popular for? It was as if it suddenly became a thing overnight.

I don't think its that popular these days. I think its more of just a meme thing IMO, not something you'd say to someone (unless you were actually high )

He makes "yes" jokes all the time. It's interesting to hear though that you don't think it's as popular as what it was. Because it's featured in that new song by Tyler, The Creator and how often my friend says it, I had just assumed that it was still a thing.

It's REALLY popular in the YouTube comments section of music videos, sometimes it's kind of annoying.
