This is a retrospective in one of John Titor's favorite years 2001............. there still seems to be confusion on what exactly happened in that year and what it felt like.
I am going to do a little retrospective to get the FEEL on how each quarter was for John Titor personally. I was in middle school at the time so I have VAST knowledge of what the atmosphere felt like.

2001 - Q1

. Sega goes out of business in the console market, I am pissed and sell my Dreamcast
. WWF is still popular as well as WCW
. The Vibe is still y2k but it has already wore out its welcome
. A new playstation called PSOne hits the market, its cool but has cheaper parts
. Pokemon starts losing lots of popularity (it already started after Silver debuted)
. WWF buys WCW and WWF starts becoming unpopular
. Dragon Ball Z still at peak popularity right now
. Teen pop still being played at nausea

2001 - Q2

. Stone Cold turns bad and The Rock leaves, massive amounts of people stop watching.
. Teen pop starts falling off fast
. The Y2k vibe starts evaporating during this time (fast)
. For the most part this was a very boring school year
. DVD mania starts exploding
. Shockwave is still popular
. The colored Macs are still popular
. Vh1 is kind of boring at this time
.Shrek is a hit

2001- Q3

. Slowest Summer of all time, the Economy had a minor recession during this time in the USA
. Tomb Raider the movie is a hit
. Game Boy Advance launches and becomes a hit at Camp
. Teen pop is almost gone from the radio
. 9/11 occurs
. The crimped hair style loses popularity
. GTA 3 launches and becomes a hit
. No more y2k vibe
. Yuigoh Launches and tries to replace Pokemon
. Little flags everywhere
. Shakira becomes a house hold name
. Michelle Branch becomes a house hold name
. Dragon Ball Z no longer as popular
. Web TV popular

2001 - Q4

. Xbox launches and becomes a hit
. The Party line becomes popular again
. Media starts promoting sex again
. At this point the vibe is completely 180 then it was when the year started
. Fox Kids loses all popularity
. Low rise jeans popular right now
. Sparkle clothing becomes popular
. AND1 t-shirts become popular

This is all extremely accurate when I think back to the year. 2001 was a very transitional year and is pretty much the year that mostly killed off the late 90s vibe (before 9/11 even happened really).

It really was, Q3 is where you see things speed up in the middle of the economy slowing down ironically. I did my best to recap every Quarter the best way it felt like. I will try to do one for different years.

The problem with the Buu saga is it dragged on for too long, and Buu was really annoying and wouldn't just die. I enjoyed it at the time but I wouldn't watch it again.

Yeah the arc for sure dragged on but I feel like the arc had plenty of great character moments (Gohan in high school, the conclusion of Vegeta's character arc, super saiyan 3, and Mr.Satan helping with the spirit bomb). I personally liked how comedic and silly Buu was (though his voice did become annoying at times). It led to offbeat moments like this.

I personally didn't really like how serious the Cell saga was. I got boring to me after a while. After fat Buu disappeared the story kinda just went downhill.

I just remember fall 2001 tons of people stopped watching, One of the last few episodes I remember watching were the ones were Goku and Pikkon were in Hell fighting Frieza and Cell.
Like it didn't go into the Buu Saga right off the jump, I know there was that stupid Saiyanman shit.

It didn't help that Suncoast had the first 20 episodes of that saga on VHS before toonami aired it lol This had to be around the time Lord Slug was in stores, that movie confused the hell out of me.

Lol @ the sparkle clothing. So true. And the flags everywhere is a super underrated component of the era, albeit US centric. Even before 9/11, Old Navy flag t-shirts were super popular, so needless to say they got their life extended another year or two. Any trace of 90’s was so dead by the end of 01.

I think the Iraq War also played a role in the rise of yellow ribbons. I definitely read something like that online.
