The 80s going into the 90s was a gradient, it happened slowly, most likely what is happening now is the same thing. Not every decade snaps into the next, it just so happens 2008 + snapped to the 2010s at a fast pace.
I was not even going to make this thread but I felt like I had to speak up and provide some commentary on the vibes at the moment.

It does not feel like the 2010s much anymore Yes it is in NAME lol but something feels different, I am usually very sensitive to changes that happen in the decades. IE: 1997, 2001. 2006. 2008, 2011,2013,2016 It feels like different the whole vibe I can't really explain it, does not really have to do with music but just the atmosphere at the moment. It just feels like this NEW vibe. Can you please stop it thank you very much? Yes I know in late 1997, MTV began shifting more progressively towards pop music or Millennials, inspired by the success of the Spice Girls and the rise of boy bands in Europe. Between 1998 and 1999, MTV's musical content consisted heavily of videos of boy bands such as Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, as well as teen pop "princesses" such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Lynda Thomas, Mandy Moore, and Jessica Simpson. Airplay of rock, electronica, and alternative acts was reduced. Hip-hop music continued in heavy rotation, through the likes of Puff Daddy, Jermaine Dupri, Master P, DMX, Busta Rhymes, Lil' Kim, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, Eminem, Foxy Brown, Ja Rule, Nas, Timbaland, and their associates. R&B was also heavily represented with acts such as Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Destiny's Child, 702, Monica, and Brandy. So according to John Titor,Fall 1997 is the start of the early 2000s or Y2K.I thought it was right but I am wrong right now.And Fall 2001 is the start of the Mid 2000s Lol.And Fall 2006 is the start of the Late 2000s.lol Fall 2008 is the start of early 2010s. Fall 2011 is the start of the transition from Early 2010s to Mid 2010s.Fall 2013 would be fully Mid 2010s Era.And Fall 2016 is the start of Late 2010s because of Halsey and Donald Trump's election.

Please keep in mind that decadeology is not tolerated on Popedia. There's nothing wrong with talking about the differences between years/decades, but we don't want our forum to be bogged down by comments about "shifts" and transitions. The focus should be on the pop culture itself, not subjective boundaries.

My horoscope tells me the 2010s aren't over yet I'm not sure if the moon told you this, but they will be very, very soon. My horoscope tells me that in just under three weeks time, a cyclone is going to usher in the 2020s at midnight on the 1st September.

Thank you very much for telling me about decadeology. No worries. If you are still a bit unsure on what is or what isn't decadeology, we have a thread about it here. My earlier post was more of a general word of warning rather than being something that was directed towards someone in particular. The topic was starting to steer a bit towards decadeology, so I thought it would be worthwhile just to remind everyone.

The late 2010s feel different from the mid 2010s, but I don't think 2019 is any different from the last couple of years. Only time will tell.

The big shift was in 2017 (began at the end of 2016) and that culture pretty much prevails to this day. I think the 2010s parallel the 1970s and will be looked back on as a split decade. There are basically two images that come to mind when people talk about "the seventies." You have the 1969-1976 culture and then you have 1977-1980. The 2010s is very similar in my opinion.

2019 still feels very 2010s to me. explain Mumble rap is still alive and well, we're still in the 8th generation of gaming, the shooting problems are as big as ever, YouTube is just as awful as ever, JoJo Siwa and Logan Paul are very popular, Fortnite and Ninja are still extremely popular, really, it still feels 2010s.
