The DOW plunging doesn't confirm a shift in culture nor a recession. This is a warning of what could potentially be coming in the next couple of years. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

But when a recession happens the culture does shift, think about how many stores left malls in 2008 and how people created new types of business to earn money online due to the high unemployment rate, yes wait and see, but its looking VERY likely it is happening.

The thing is though that was AFTER the recession hit. When the warning sign of the '08 recession happened in 2005 there wasn't a major shift in culture, that didn't happen until 2008. I feel like the same could be applied here.

The core 2000s from 2004 until about the crash were actually more typified by cultural excess. Anyone remember the needlessly massive Garbage Burger? But I do remember around 2007/2008 or so, what would become hipster fashion was coming into style because it was "what poor folks wear." Bling was out, thrifty was in.

A rap song that is actually good and not the formulaic mumble rap, strays away from the normal 2010s cliches

I feel like Y2K influence in pop culture is about to explode in the next few years. Normani’s debut album is supposed to be heavily influenced by Aaliyah’s later work and Destiny’s Child.
