I played paintball for the first time on Sunday. It was never something that I was particularly keen on doing, however my friend invited me, a mutual friend and a friend of his to for his birthday (they had never played paintball before either).
I'm just curious, has anyone else on here ever done it before? If so, what did you think of it?
We went to the Delta Force Paintball in Appin. First of all, the paintball company was a complete rip-off. The four of us each had to pay $90 for 500 paintballs! My friend also had to fork out over $100 just to register the four of us to play two rounds of it. Also, if you have any bags/equipment with you and you want to put it into a storage locker, that in itself costs $30. Oh, by the way, it's not even a proper locker; it's just a small space on a wooden shelf. I didn't have to put anything into a 'locker' thankfully, but our mutual friend did, which meant that he payed up to $120 in one hit. It's ridiculously overpriced.
The headgear, overalls etc. are provided for free, however you need to pay for gloves and a crotch guard separately. I'm pretty sure they were at least $15 each. As a result, we didn't even bother purchasing any of them, because we had already spent a lot of money as it was.
The paintball rounds themselves weren't particularly great either. There was about 24 people all in the one group, so we were all split into two groups of 12 people. Due to the fact that everyone was dressed in the exact same safety outfits/overalls, you couldn't actually tell who was on what team (the other team wore purple wristbands, but who's seriously going to take note of that?) and people started shooting paintballs just for the sake of it. The guns also repeatedly got clogged and stop firing after a few shots.
Also, when people say that paintballs hurt, they're not kidding. I got hit in the forehead at least 6-7 times and it was absolutely painful. The best way I can describe it is like someone throwing rocks or sharp objects at you. Most of the paintballs don't actually splatter when they hit you, so it basically just feels like getting hit by a big clump of clay or hard rock. I'm amazed that I wasn't left with any bruises. I also got hit on the back of my legs as well.
So, I can't say that I enjoyed paintball at all. I doubt that I will ever do it again.
