Inspired by a discussion on the Popedia Chat. Are there certain words which you simply refuse to use or don't like hearing in particular?
Here are mine:
"Buddy" - Maybe this is just me, but I feel as though the word "buddy" is very condescending, especially when it is said by someone older than you. When someone says to me, "thank you buddy", it just rubs me the wrong way. It's almost as if they are saying it because they believe there is something "special" or "different" about you.
"Mate" - Even though I am Australian, I personally choose not to use the word "mate". Not only do I find it sterotypically macho, but it also annoys me how often it is used by people in day-to-day conversations, especially by men.
The overuse of the word "like" - A friend and I once counted all the times the word "like" was said during our English lesson in Year 12 and by the end of the hour, it was said a total of 151 times. It's annoying when it is used repeatedly in the one sentence.

Here in America there has been a massive uptick in non-Southerners saying "Y'all". I don't know why but this just drives me insane. It just sounds so cringy and forced when I hear someone from the north unironically say Y'all. Might I also add that it is also mostly younger people in their teens and twenties who are doing this.

That's something I have picked up on as well actually, even just from reading posts online from users based in the northern US. Do you know if it has only just started to happen within the past couple of years or has it been something that has been going on for quite a few years now?

I do just that because it's a good plural for ''you.''

Northerners saying y'all has always been a thing, but for some reason its exploded in popularity within the last two years.

I dont like G'day, especially when people use it in a formal manner I don't dislike it as much as the word "mate", but I definitely see what you mean. It's just a very cliche Australian thing to say and hearing it used in a formal manner almost sounds like some sort of joke. If you say "G'Day" to someone, you may as well say "crickey" and shout them a Fosters while you're at it.

I find it weird when someone replies "moist" in place of something like "got it" or "understood".
I also dislike hearing the f-word overused; multiple times in a statement in all its renditions. It kind of clutters the statement and makes it difficult for me to concentrate on the main point otherwise.

To be honest, I can't remember ever hearing it being used in that context, but "moist" is just a horrible word in general. I also agree in regards to the f-word being overused. It's just distasteful when every second word is "f*** this" or "f*** that".

I hate when people call something "generic". Especially when it's something I really like.
