imagine time traveling back to 2009 or 2010 and saying the end of 2019 will have many lo fi songs and almost no electropop No one would have predicted it, but in a way, it doesn't really surprise me. Bedroom-pop/lo-fi is likely the evolution of the indie-pop scene. Quite the opposite actually, I would posit the lo-fi trend - and genres such as "aggressive elevator music" - are a reaction to the maximalism of the Millennial music, both underground and mainstream, that came before it. This article discusses it, I found it every interesting: (Maybe I should do a blog post about this once the trend becomes a full-fledged phenomenon...)

This may be from 2018, but it seems Japan may also be dipping their toes into lo fi:
I guess it really is anyone's guess whether it carries over into the 2020s as a whole, but I'll be interested to see how this progresses.
