I can see Trap music declining as early as 2020, but realistically I think it'll probably be 2021, or the 2020-2021 school year. I'm not saying it will be completely dead by then, but I think that will be the point where it starts to die down and something new will come.

Hopefully right now but sadly not until about 2021/22

I can see a number of parallels between Trap and hair-metal in terms of how ubiquitous both genres were. Much like hair-metal, I tend to think a new sub-genre of hip-hop (which i'm predicting will be "alternative"/lo-fi in style) will come into prominence by Late 2021.

I don't think trap will decline until Late 2020 or 2021.

Let’s look at this logically. EDM dominated for the better part of the decade and really came to fore in 2009 or so. That’s a ten-year lifespan. It’s more than just a fad, clearly, although people have been loudly declaring its demise since 2013 or so.
Trap falls very much under the “seemed to be a fad but it just won’t die” bucket. I don’t know if I’d give it ten years necessarily, but clearly it owes its longevity to SOMEONE. I would say once the “trap is dead” articles start sprouting up, we’re probably at the zenith or just beyond it.

My guess is 2021. It will probably take us to get into the next decade enough for it to seem like a 2010's thing. By 2022 we'll probably, even subconsciously, be trying to separate ourselves from it once something newer and cooler is finally able to move in.

Why do I feel like trap music will never come to end? It feels like it can go for an eternity and still the kids who listen to it think it will never get old. I'm hoping by 2020 it will start to die down maybe 2021 at the latest. I don't want to see it go into the mid 2020s.

I dunno about an EDM decline tbh. I still hear loads of Future Bass influences into Pop songs. Specific genres like Tropical House are pretty much dead at this point, but maybe not an EDM one as a whole so far.
As for Trap, people have literally clamoring its demise since freaking 2016. It won't happen any time soon I predict.
