I think Nu-Metal gets a bit of a bad wrap, to be honest. Fred Durst wasn't the be all and end all for the genre. Most of the bands had actual talent and produced good material. System of a Down and Linkin Park are two of my favourite bands, although I personally don't believe that S.O.A.D were/are a Nu-Metal band. Korn are pretty good too. "Freak on a Leash" would have to be one of my favourite songs of theirs.
While I admit that Nu-Metal isn't one of the best movements to have come out of rock, I believe the genre deserves a lot more recognition and appreciation than what it receives. What are your thoughts on the genre?

Most metalheads seem to dislike this genre for trying to appeal to the mass market as possible. It's "angsty teenage music" for them. They also mostly hate the rapping and other Hip Hop influences which is one genre that seems to be the metal community's true nadir (the general closeheadness of that community is one thing that I always really despised). But tbh I personally never really cared for this genre and I really don't like from what I've heard from bands like Korn, Slipknot and especially Limp Bizkit. Linkin Park is probably my only go-to nu metal band since I do like most of their hits  . System of a Down is apparently more of a general Alt Metal band than really Nu Metal, but their stuff is also pretty damn good.

Yeah, I don't agree with the suggestions that System of a Down are a Nu-Metal band. Their music is stylistically different from other Nu-Metal bands, such as Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit.
