Here's a look back on what was happening in January 2018:
January 2018:
Mibblez - "I wouldn't be surprised if the music scene will be the same though. But I know it's gonna change soon, and if it does happen this year then whoop I'm all for it. I can't wait for my revival of mainstream rock and more up beat sounding pop music to comeback " Link.
EyewitnessTV - "NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance has announced that one of six new Sydney ferries, named "Ferry McFerryface", will be renamed, following revelations his unpopular choice was a captain's pick rather than a public favourite." - Link
longaotian - "Too much trap and EDM dominating the charts. "Gucci Gang" & "Bodak Yellow" are complete trash even though people think they are genuinely good songs. Ed Sheeran has had countless No.1 singles worldwide over the past year and I am absolutely sick of hearing him. "Havana" is good but a little overplayed. 1989>Reputation. I'm so pissed off right now, the charts are absolute trash." Link.
#Infinity - "I'll be genuinely angry if Cardi B is still huge throughout 2018 but Camila Cabello isn't." Link.
SharksFan99 - "I'm still not entirely sure what the "Late 2010s" even are. To me, music has remained relatively the same since 2014. The Early 2010s are pretty distinguishable when it comes to music, but at the present time, the Mid 2010s and Late 2010s just seem like one era. Even television and movies haven't changed to much. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still as popular as ever." Link
rainbow - "I'm not really a big fan of the song Finnesse by Bruno Mars and Cardi B, to be honest. However, I'd still take that song anyway over Justin Timberlake's awful song." Link
SydneyCityTV - "Nine is re-hiring a presenter for The AFL Footy Show that was axed after a drunken incident on live TV? Even considering that the incident happened almost a decade ago and there's probably different people running Nine right now compared to 2009, I really don't know what to say about that..." Link.
#Infinity - "Modern trap, aka Soundcloud rap's dominance of music does not seem to be slowing down at all. I am seriously terrified that by the end of 2018, there won't be anything else left. Cardi B is apparently the biggest new star right now, and all of the songs I've heard from her absolutely suck. The hit singles by Lil' Pump, 21 Savage, Big Shaq, Lil Uzi Vert, and so on are certainly not any better. We've gotten to the point that even regular pop stars are heavily integrating trap snares into their songs, even if the tracks themselves are composed and delivered with far more passion. I really wouldn't be surprised, at this rate, if Jake Paul starts scoring legit pop hits, maybe even the other members of Team 10, as well." Link.
