This is so stereotypical but so true. I went to a predominately black school & never saw a black girl fangirling over Harry Styles, but I saw so many white girls do the same thing. That's due to the fact that most black girls aren't into white men but you often see black men with white women Funnily enough, I’m white & in a relationship with a black man. Interracial relationships are common with black/white & white/asian, but I rarely see a black girl and a white guy holding hands together. Weirdly enough, I see so much of the reverse.

There's 2 reasons for that. 1 is the way black women are portrayed in the media. They're unfairly stereotyped for being "loud" "masculine" "angry black woman" 2 is the number of self hating black men in the black community who wouldn't date someone that looks like their mama because they're self hating anti black. They rather date light skinned and white girls because in their belief it's "prettier" and they typically sexualize mixed race/biracial girls. Colorism is something nobody talks about but it needs to be addressed.

I’ve noticed this too that black women who are shown as feminine & pretty are light skin, but you rarely see dark skin women represented in fashion, movies & Hollywood. It’s sad how we’ve been programmed to think that light skin is prettier & dark skin is uglier. I can only imagine what dark skin girls go through when they see people like them portrayed as ugly & inferior. This is why I’m incredibly supportive of representation of any kind. Everyone deserves to see someone like them in the media!

Everyone deserves to see someone like them in the media! India spends billions of money on skin lightening products because over there being light skinned is a symbol of high class. Notice how bollywood only casts light skinned Indians. That's because of colorism.

I love my boyfriend because he’s compassionate & sweet, not because of the color of his skin. It’s been a good 3 years since we’ve started our relationship & I’m so lucky to call him my boyfriend!

That's because of colorism. And white privilege. Racism is different from colorism. In the white mans eyes were all black regardless how light we are. Colorism is deep in racial and ethnic minority communities and the lighter your skin the more privilege you have.

The fact that you can't see your own privilege is privilege in of itself. You never had to worry about your parents or anyone for that matter telling you to stay out the sun because you're getting too dark. And since you're asian and korean you would have an easier time getting famous in kpop just because your skin is lighter. You don't need to worry about bleaching your skin to make it lighter because you're naturally white/light skinned asian.

The fact that you can't see your own privilege is privilege in of itself. Or maybe, ya know, it doesn't exist? Ok, this is my last comment to you on this subject before I move on. You're obviously misinformed on the concept of light skinned privilege and don't understand what it means. Just to make it clear to you: Nobody is saying you're bad for having lighter skin. What I meant by the sentence you selected is people with privilege don't often realize they have advantages over other people in society because they don't have to think about it. In this case of light skinned privilege you don't think about your skin color because it has no impact on you. That's what light skinned privilege is. And keep in mind this is specific to the asian and other minority communities and not people as a whole. We're all non whites at the end of the day.

I am a light skin black girl and I know for a fact that I benefit from light skin privilege because, despite being a person of color, my level of discrimination does NOT compare to the injustices my darker skin peers faced. If I apply for a job, I am more likely to get hired over my dark skin sisters. I can turn on the television and see people with my same complexion represented. To light skin black people: YOUR EXPERIENCE IS NOT THE SAME AS YOUR DARKER SKIN PEERS! USE YOUR PRIVILEGE TO UPLIFT THEIR VOICES AND SHUT UP WHEN YOUR DARK SKIN FRIEND TALKS ABOUT COLORISM.

Trans women of color have it the worst. The average life expectancy for trans woman of color is 35 years old because they're the most frequent homicide victims in america. Black lgbt people have it harder because the black community is still big on homophobia so being black and coming out is harder than being white and coming out.
