There's hate for 2016? I wouldn't have thought so judging by the amount of love the year seems to receive on here. Jokes aside, I really do believe that it's still too soon for most people to have genuine nostalgia for 2016, which explains why the year cops a lot of criticism. It was just over three years ago. Like I mentioned in another thread, people will start to perceive the year in a much more positive light in another 2-3 years time. We just need to give it more time. Until then, don't let other people's complaints ruin your sense of nostalgia and fondness for the year. We all had our own unique experiences of 2016 and no one can change that.

Maybe not on here but on like YouTube and Twitter, everyone bashed the hell out of 2016 when it came to an end. I've never seen it like that with other years.

I may have to agree with SharksFan99 on this one. It's too early to have nostalgia over 2016 even though people are feeling a sense of it now and as much as I liked the year, I can't force others to change their opinions of how they think of 2016. This is also the same for 2014 because that year also got numerous amounts of hate and is still hated to this day. However, people like with 2016, are now looking back at that year and realized it wasn't that bad. As for the time being, 2016 will not become entirely nostalgic until 2021 or 2022.

I think this thread was only made because I made that stupid mistake in my 2016 culture thread.

Just because your life was good in 2016 doesn't mean people are going to stop hating that year.

No, 2016 was not as bad as WWII or the Great Depression by itself, but the changes that occurred in that year did set the stage for geopolitical conditions that can result in another great depression or world war. Indeed, events of this year appear to be proving that right:
1. China cracking down on Tibet, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang (not to mention their throwing Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps) 2. India cracking down on Kashmir and throwing their Muslims in concentration camps 3. The U.S. cracking down on migrants and throwing both migrants and lawful permanent residents in concentration camps 4. The burning of the Amazon rainforest 5. Brexit 6. Russia trying to consolidate control over former satellites 7. The U.S.-China trade war, which has caused multiple stock and futures losses over the last two years
And that's just a sampling. It may not be a depression or world war today or tomorrow, but these are all the sorts of things that set it into motion, and it all traces back to the events of 2016. Just as the War on Terror couldn't have happened without the 9/11 attacks in 2001, but that may have been prevented if the 2000 election had gone differently.

I honestly don’t care if the 2016 haters think otherwise. 2016 was awesome and if you think otherwise then don’t ruin it for others.

Winter 2015/16 felt just like 2014 and 2015 to me. Spring and Summer 2016 were a great time. But I think now most people think of Fall 2016, where everything seemed to have just gone dark overnight, which only enhanced after November 7th and continued into 2017 and today.
2016 was definitely a transition year and most people seem to only think of the end of the transition now.
