Summer 2012... The best summer of all time.
I think I've told this story a million times by now, but I watched Gangnam Style as it was revealed live.
I crashed at my (Korean) friend's house after a night of bar hopping. It was around 3AM. He passed out in his room, so I hung out with his sister. She was watching a Korean Pop music show where they do live performances. This is when Gangnam Style was first performed live, before the MV came out. After the music show was over, I remember remarking that that song was my favourite out of all the ones performed that day.
About 5 minutes after the program ended, the Gangnam Style MV went live on YouTube. Me and her watched it and almost died laughing! We must have watched it like 10 times. The guy who does the hip thrust in the elevator is actually a really famous Korean comedian.
Did I have any clue that it would become the biggest YouTube video of all time? HELL NO
But when I saw it on CNN and people talking about it at the uni coffee shop I knew I had to learn the dance, and I didn't stop dancing it for the rest of the year.
Ahh, what I'd do to wake up a day in 2012 again.
