I feel like there'll be at least one or two people here who'll be interested in this website, the Y2K Aesthetic Institute. Here's a lil' sampling of the Y2K-styled visuals this tumblr has archived:     For at least those first few, you can see the futurism aesthetic on full display. And I mean, I do remember that quite distinctly: this sense that we were now mere footsteps away from living in the future we'd all imagined for decades. Flying cars, neon-colored jumpsuits, electronically-produced music, that's what the future appeared to promise, and it seemed really close.

I know this is just a side note but that last gif is from a coming up next bumper of Angela Anaconda, a show aired in the late 90s and early 2000s. It's so creepy because of the uncanny grayed out faces and it makes me cringe.

The Y2K aesthetic is actually my favorite thing about that era. It looks a lot better than the bland vibe of most things these days. Though, I am a bit biased.

The comeback of this aesthetic makes me uneasy. It was incredibly real yet we have somehow managed to collectively forget about it for the past eighteen years. It's stirring up early childhood feelings.

The comeback of this aesthetic makes me uneasy. It was incredibly real yet we have somehow managed to collectively forget about it for the past eighteen years. It's stirring up early childhood feelings.You've seen this aesthetic coming back? Maybe I don't get out enough, but can you provide some examples? I agree though about the aesthetic making me feel uneasy, although for different reasons: I disagreed (and still do) that that's what the future looks like.

I remember the author of that website made a thread on inthe00s before he created that website. I forgot their username, but when I saw the website mentioned in the news I was really happy for them

It's so creepy because of the uncanny grayed out faces and it makes me cringe. Oh god, "Angela Anaconda". I absolutely hated that show as a kid and it wasn't because I thought the characters were creepy; I just thought the grayed-out faces made them all look ugly.

I absolutely hated that show as a kid and it wasn't because I thought the characters were creepy; I just thought the grayed-out faces made them all look ugly. I watched a review of it and the show makes Angela look like a sociopath. She wanted to eat a school bully in the episode "The Substitute"!

I think most people know this is not how the future will look. Ironically, I think people are reviving this aesthetic because they miss when were more optimistic about the future. It's essentially a kind of retrofuturism. Of course, the fact the future not only didn't end up looking like this, but that the 2000s started off so sour (with the dot-com burst, Bush election, and ESPECIALLY 9/11) was the main thing that killed off this aesthetic. In its place was McBling and the lesser-known Metalheart aesthetic.
