I just read something on inthe00s that made me laugh
"it was also an exciting time due to the explosion of the internet and 3D gaming (yes playstation had been around since 95 but it didnt become big until the late 90s and even then it was overshadowed by the Nintendo 64)"
Playstation sold way more systems and was WAY more popular then N64.
PS1 102.49 million N64 32.93 million
sorry for the rant, but I have to say something when I see inaccuracies being posted about the 90s lol Not to say n64 was a bad system I had both n64 and ps1, but ps1 made video games more serious and more of a pop culture thing. Tomb Raider became a movie, FF 7 made RPGs blow up.

N64 only had about 12 games worth playing, PS1 wins by a landslide.

N64 only had like 12 games that are worth playing while, PS1 wins by a landslide. I spit out my drink when I saw the poster say n64 overshadowed ps1, just LMAO in what alternate universe? PS1 was kicking n64's ass in 1997 with FF7 commercials and Tomb Raider commercials non stop. Only n64 games I played was Mario 64, Mario Kart, Goldeneye, diddy kong, No Mercy, Zelda, Star Fox. That is all you really needed tbh. I feel like everyone had a Playstation under their tv in the late 90s that is how popular it was.

PS1 > N64 PS2 > Gamecube > Xbox Xbox 360 > PS3 > Wii PS4 > Xbox One > Switch > Wii U
Sorry for putting the Switch lower, just my opinion.
PS1 was so much better, N64 was decent but nowhere near PS1 levels.

Not to turn this into gossip thread about other users on other forums, but I find it amusing that this particular user once insulted you for making early-mid 90s atmosphere threads despite "not remembering it" while he got the most basic fact about late '90s gaming wrong

I actually tried to learn Japanese when I was a teen just so I could play Saturn (and Japan-exclusive Super Famicom and DS) games

Everything always has to be a vs. debate. Just play with you like the most, geez. I personally think the N64 is better because Super Mario 64, Pokémon Stadium 2 and Majora's Mask.

I so wished I had the 64 back in today what's ironic is that I was born the day when the system released in Japan (June 23, 1996).
