Wednesday was the 13th anniversary of My Chemical Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade" and after hearing about the anniversary, it got me thinking about how I perceived the song at the time. Back then, the music video used to leave me feeling on edge, at least until it got to the chorus. Seeing all those people wear masks and the building rubble on the ground made me think of a war, for some reason. Also, this was the song that introduced me to what "Emo" was. I can remember Panic!'s "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" being a hit early in 2006, however I never thought of it as being an Emo song.
What are some of the memories you have of listening to certain songs as a child? Can you remember how they made you feel? Do you have any funny memories associated with listening to particular songs?
Here are some of my memories of listening to certain songs as a child:
Hearing this on the radio when I was little (around ages 4-5) used to make me feel upset, especially when it got to the "goodbye" line of the chorus. It would almost put me on the verge of crying, lol.
I didn't like "According To You" when it was new, as I thought it sounded like a pop-rock song you'd hear in a Disney Channel movie. I like it now though.
Speaking of My Chemical Romance, me talking about the anniversary of "Black Parade" reminded me of another memory I have of listening to their songs at the time (MCR always stood out for me, for some reason). I can remember seeing the music video/song on Channel V and thinking at the time that this was like Green Day.
