I cannot for the life of me imagine Myspace in 2004. It must have been a core luxury back then. No one really knew what it was when it first came out, it was unreal putting in your zip code and seeing EVERYONE in the area who had one. It blew up VERRRRRRRRRRY fast. It was like a drug addiction seeing NEW MESSAGES NEW COMMENTS etc Around this time Myspace profiles consisted of EMO backdrops or Glitter

The progression back in the day was from Livejournal (summer 2003 to fall 2004) to Xanga (summer 2004 to summer 2005) to MySpace (summer 2005 to fall 2006 or so, but by then most people had adopted Facebook). I know; I was there. Well, except for Livejournal - I didn’t get the appeal.

I was there as well lol Over here in the north east Myspace took over by late 2004, by the time PSP launched in 2005 people were using to to browse Myspace Xanga is kind of tricky in that it kind of faded out. I never liked Live Journal either.

I’m just amazed someone other than my group of friends remembers Xanga.

around late 2004/2005 they started gaining steam so yupp. Light blue pastels and pink dominated 2004, 2004 just spear headed so many trends that became normalized for the 2000s. Since we were both living on the east coast at the time I remember it snowing pretty heavy around November boots were in full effect. Speaking of pastels, you remember this trend of cardigans with monogrammed initials? They were either baby blue or pink. It must’ve been around 2004/5. Logos and monograms stayed big for a long time. I also remember Uggs in those colors, but they already weren’t popular by like 2007. I think they got dirty too easily. I feel like around 2004 there was more of a dichotomy between preppy/pastel and goth/emo/hardcore etc. There was a while following where everyone got a little bit hardcore, and then by scene everything had gone softer.

I tend to think of 2003 and 2004 as the years of Von Dutch and Von Drunk.

Hahaha that PC Gamer though. Back when blurry textures, no shadows, and low-poly objects were considered realistic graphics. *cough* GTA San Andreas. Besides the bad graphics in the game, I loved the gameplay and storyline anyway, probably my favorite game ever.

I was in second grade at that time. It was also like a few months before I got exposed to cell phones and like a year before I got exposed to the internet and laptops. It was because not even my parents had cell phones at that time, and anyone who did have them did not really use them outdoors. Yes, a time when more than half of the people living in the Us didnt have a cell phone of their own, internet access at home, own laptops, or have an email address.

Nah, I had a pretty run of the mill Windows XP with just the standard hardware, and stuff like Star Wars: Battlefront and Dungeon Siege ran just fine. In fact, when we bought the Alienware - marketed as a gaming computer - two or three months later, that ended up running everything that wasn't Battlefront shittier than the general use PC. It was such a piece of crap.

Yeah, it should also be noted, if it hasn't already, that November 2004 is considered by some to be the single greatest month in video game history. And that's hard to argue, given that we had Halo 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Jak 3, Metroid Prime 2 and Ratchet and Clank 3 coming out that month. And I had only gotten Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas shortly before that too. What an awesome era to be a video gamer.
