2013 seems to be debated by many on here as being either a hybrid of early 2010s, early 2010s or mid-2010s. I would argue that 2013 was a very mid-2010s year for music. Some of these songs you may argue are early 2010s, but I don't see it. A few of them may be very obscure and I don't know it. I may have forgotten some songs too. Anyways, here are 2013 songs that sound mid-2010s:
All of Me - John Legend Am I Wrong - Nico & Vinz Animals - Martin Garrix Best Day of My Life - American Authors Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke Burn - Ellie Goulding Can't Hold Us - Macklemore Counting Stars - OneRepublic Cups - Anna Kendrick Demons - Imagine Dragons Get Lucky - Daft Punk Harlem Shake - Baauer Impossible - James Arthur Just Give Me A Reason - Pink + Nate Ruess On Top Of The World - Imagine Dragons Pompeii - Bastille Radioactive - Imagine Dragons Royals - Lorde Say Something - A Great Big World + Christina Aguilera Started From The Bottom - Drake Stay - Rihanna + Mikky Ekko Talk Dirty + Jason Derulo + 2 Chainz We Can't Stop - Miley Cyrus When I Was Your Man - Bruno Mars Wrecking Ball - Miley Cyrus

Besides Royals, Harlem Shake, Get Lucky, Pompeii, and Talk Dirty, most of these song wouldn't sound alien in the early 2010s and are not exclusive to the mid-2010s. 2013 is a hybrid year at best. It's like saying the 2011 song Pumped Up Kicks is a mid 2010s sounding song because it's indie song and not electropop. There were plenty of non-electropop songs in the early 2010s that wouldn't sound dated in the mid 2010s, particularly 2014-2015. If you want very mid 2010s sounding songs, look at the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons.

Sorry but those don't sound early 2010s to me, the pop hits of this year were predominantly mid-2010s, especially for the second half of the year. Pumped Up Kicks is it's own style, not like mid-2010s type. 2013 music seems more similar to 2015 music than 2011 music, 2013 was the year electopop declined heavily.

Radioactive has dubstep influence which is dominant in the early 2010s. Blurred Lines is it's own style, not early 2010s but not mid 2010s either, it sounds very late 70s. Pumped Up Kicks would totally fit in the years 2013-2015 since indie dominated those years. I would say 2013 is connected equally to both 2011 and 2015. Honestly, both early and mid 2010s songs don't seem drastically different from each other, there are differences but they're not different worlds. Ditto for mid and late 2010s.

Yeah "We Can't Stop" stands out as a precursor to the chill, downbeat, after-party feel that is still very popular to this day. "Royals" basically birthed the alt and depressi-pop of the second half of the 2010s. "Get Lucky" is also the beginning of the disco/synth funk revival that would eventually peak with "Uptown Funk". I also see "Thrift Shop" as the start of the brass obsession of the mid-2010s.
I never really considered "Radioactive" indie in my opinion, especially compared to other Imagine Dragons of the time. Along with Awolnation's "Sail", it kinda marked the beginning of the electro-pop/rock anthems that many bands like Coldplay, 5SOS, Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy have adopted.

The piano ballads listed would've come out in any period of the 2010s tbh. Burn is still technically electropop. Songs like Best Day Of My Life and Top Of The World were only relevant in the Indie Folk trend of 2012-2014, didn't really make it past that.

I thought of this thread, and I decided to watch a video with 50 hits from 2013 in it. Out of the songs I listened to, and counting from the list above, 26 songs that I heard in the video sounded more mid-2010s to me (forgot to add one song). That's over half the songs in the video! Overall, it's a hybrid year between early/mid 2010s, but leaning mid-2010s since this was the year electopop started to decline and pop music (and music in general, honestly) sounded noticeably different from 2010-2012.

I know this didnt chart well, Iggy Azalea's work sounds very Mid-2010s. Listen to that, and Don't let me down by the Chainsmokers, you'll hear the mid 2010s vibe In both songs, both Trap-EDM.
