Those pictures really exemplify how outdated the year 2005 is now. I have photos of me from this month, as I went on a holiday down to Canberra with my Mum.

Does this really look that dated to people? Damn, maybe I am old. Probably just a matter of perspective. I was just 6 at the time and now i'm almost 21. I'm sure 2005 and the Mid 2000s in general wouldn't seem as outdated to someone who was a teen or an adult at the time.

It's not just the trends and aesthetics of the time which are outdated, but I think even the world of 2005 is noticeably distant from the present day. There's certain aspects of the views people had which would now be seen as being backward and archaic. Society is generally much more tolerant to alternative ways of thinking and minority causes than what they were, such as the acceptance of gluten-free food, gender-neutral bathrooms, plant-based meat etc. Could you imagine the amount of backlash something like rainbow pedestrian crossings would have got back in 2005? We're talking about a time when homophobia and open racism were still commonly heard in day-to-day life. I can remember kids at my school referring to things as "gay" when they didn't like something and the word "retard" was used to describe people on the Autism Spectrum. It's things like that which show how far we've come as a society over the past 14 years.
Also, people go about their lives completely differently to what they did back then. Teens would blast CDs they had purchased through their bedroom stereo systems, not go onto a streaming service like Spotify and listen to their favourite songs through their smartphones. Rock was still at the forefront of the cultural landscape and perceived as being rebellious, like it had been in previous generations. The idea of throwing a party and getting wasted was idolised; 'party culture' is no longer really a thing. People would go to video rental stores to rent out a movie for the night. Like I mentioned, it's just a completely different world. If someone from 2019 could go back to the world of 2005, you would notice a huge difference and it would take time to adjust to.
