I've been saying this since 2018 or so but usually get a snarky reply back insisting nothing has changed since 2014/2015 except the President lol. I feel like 2017 was the big change year. id say Late 2016 to Late 2017 was the gradient that changed things

I think it's the same with the late 2010s. There was a "late 2016 shift", but the culture didn't really feel late 2010s until late 2017.

Right now, we're at the end of 2019 and it should be pretty easy to differentiate the mid and late 2010s from each other. Late 2016 and early 2017 had a late 2010s vibe there, but it wasn't complete until around mid/late 2017.

Also I think the change of the President - and therefore the political mood - is no small thing. Indeed, in this age of the spread of right wing authoritarianism, I believe the late 2010s culture we have observed are the direct ripples of this change.

Anytime you have a new president it is going change culture, you are 100% correct

At this point, the Mid-2010s really does feel like another world. If Early 2020 feels different, then therefore the Mid 2010s would be truly dated.

As you can see people were already feeling the mid 2010s were different in 2019 ( as evident by the post date)

As you can see people were already feeling the mid 2010s were different in 2019 ( as evident by the post date) Now after covid even the late 10s feel different Remember the cultural meltdown we had every weekend when Trump tweeted something stupid? And remember when every song had a trap beat and/or an EDM drop
