Here's a new game: someone picks any two songs, and we vote for the one we like best. First song goes to 3 points wins, and someone else posts another match. Or if it's gone too long without a new vote, we'll just move on. On the other hand, the thresholds of 3 points can also increase if there's too much activity going on. Preferably the two songs have something in common, but they don't have to be from the same artist or decade. You also don't have to explain your vote, but it's always nice to hear different opinions.

That being said, here's the first match:
Match 1: Foolish Beat vs. Foolish Games
Both songs written by their fairly young singers and containing "foolish" in the title. I guess this match boils down to if you prefer 80s sophisti-pop or 90s adult alternative.
On my side I guess I'll have to give it to "Foolish Games" for having more emotional weight.

Nice idea for a thread! I would also have to give the point to "Foolish Games".

Foolish Beat has the better instrumentals, while Foolish Games has the better vocals. For the sake of progressing this thread, I'm going to vote for Foolish Games, so Foolish Games wins Match 1, 3-0
Match 2: Home Sweet Home (Motley Crue) VS Love Bites (Def Leppard)
Both songs are popular glam metal power ballads from the '80s, and both invoking a lot of emotion. However, the former's vocals are much more subdued and straight-forward, while the latter is more emotional and higher pitched. Also, the former's chorus can become somewhat redundant a lot faster than the latter's chorus can, so overall, "Love Bites" wins this one for me.

Definitely Love Bites. I personally think Joe Elliot is a better vocalist than Vince Neil and Def Leppard are the only band from the '80s Glam Metal scene which I have an appreciation for, I like quite a few of their songs. So the point has to go to Love Bites:

Match 3: "I Don't Love You" (My Chemical Romance) VS "I Don't Care" (Fall Out Boy)
It's a case of the "I Don'ts" from two of the biggest defining bands of the Mid-Late 2000s emo scene. "I Don't Love You" was released as the third-single off My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade in 2007, while "I Don't Care" was released as the lead-single off Fall Out Boy's Folie a Deux the following year. Both songs differ from the emo-driven, pop-punk sound that the two bands are known for.
I'm personally giving the point to "I Don't Love You". Stylistically, I consider it to be the more engaging and creative of the two, and I prefer Gerard Way as a vocalist as well. Also, I can remember watching the music video on Channel V when it was new, so I would be lying if I said that I didn't have a bit of bias towards it. I do like "I Don't Care" as well, however I find the song itself to be bland without the music video (which I feel makes the song).

For me, I Don't Care is the better song. I Don't Love You is a decent song, but the emotion at times feels very forced rather than natural. I Don't Care has a great upbeat vibe that works well for sporting events, and the emotion feels far more natural.

Would you look at that, we got our first competitive series on this thread.

I Don't Care is my pick, mainly due to nostalgia (it's not something I would deliberately listen to though). The My Chemical Romance song doesn't do anything for me.
