Not to sound gross, but I haven't watched porn in about a month (since I read the book on Digital Minimalism). I notice I'm starting to find people I know IRL more attractive. I guess porn does indeed create higher (if not unrealistic) standards. link to book

Would they be more attractive in person or in a movie? Depends... is this person nekkid IRL? If no then movie.

I think porn can alter your reality or some ish.

Lots of catholic aunt-level of pearl clutching going on in this thread There's nothing wrong about it inherently as long as it depicts non-underaged, consenting partners, unless of course you're addicted to it (but then again no addiction is really good). And in my opinion it's a practical outlet for people to let their impulses out instead of sexually hounding on people irl...

I’m a libertarian who believes in maximum freedom so long as violence doesn’t occur, so I voted that it’s good. I have heard the arguments both for and against pornography. Now if you dislike porn, I literally have no problem because it’s freedom of choice after all. A lot of people believe porn is connected to rape, but I actually disagree. In fact, since the rise of the internet and platforms like Pornhub, rape has actually gone DOWN. www.statista.com/statistics/191226/reported-forcible-rape-rate-in-the-us-since-1990/Now there are numerous reasons, like declining crime in general, plus people can now look in front of a screen and look at sex instead of, you know, assaulting women. It kinda reminds me of the violent video game debate, and of course they shouldn’t be banned. Crime decreased as video games got more violent. Where do we draw the line? Hardcore porn, soft core porn, raunchy movies? Porn isn’t necessarily one arbitrary thing like a lot of you guys think. Like so many things, it’s a spectrum. There is genuinely fucked up shit on the dark web, like child porn and rape porn. That I think is absolutely wrong. But most of what people look up isn’t harmful. Porn addiction is definitely a problem, but it’s a problem in the same way alcohol addiction or gambling addiction is a problem. The solution isn’t to ban the thing, because it won’t do anything productive. Look at Prohibition from the 1920s, or the War On Drugs in the 1980s. Authoritarian policies and banning shit almost never does anything good for society. The Tumblr NSFW ban alone shows just how impactful this would be. If a single website banning NSFW content was enough to cripple the entire website, imagine the repurcussions of banning pornography, period. I think the more constructive solution is to regulate the porn industry more so that those working in the field get treated with respect, and create programs educating people who have problematic porn addictions. Hell, I’d argue society is still too far on the opposite side of the spectrum if anything. Sexual freedom still needs a lot of work in my opinion. People tend to be shamed for their fetishes, or having weird sexual interests in general, and porn is really a form of escapism for them in that regard. I think that’s another thing that’s holding society back. I wish people would be more accepting of differing sexual viewpoints, whether that’s hetero, homo, ace, or weird fetishes. So long as nobody is harmed, it should not be shamed upon. Lots of people also get shamed for looking at porn too, both IRL and online. This very forum has it, and it isn’t right IMO, especially if they are perfectly functional human beings, which most are. Think of the coomer meme for example. I think y’all greatly overexaggerate how porn attracts rapists for example. In the MeToo movement, many of the worst figures were actually in the CHILDREN ENTERTAINMENT industry, like Dan Schneider. iCarly’s about as far from porn as you can get, but it still doesn’t change the fact that he’s a rapist. Yes, rapists and pedos watch porn, but it’s inherently sexual and MANY people watch porn, so of course they will. What next, we’ll ban water because rapists drink water? 🙄 Like I said, regulating this shit so that rape porn doesn’t persist on major websites is more than enough.

The only thing that is bad is when is when it:
1. Interferes or causes significant problems in daily life 2. It is non-consenting or seriously harmful content 3. Becomes too much of an addiction, reduces pleasurable sex or the need to date
There is nothing wrong with consenting porn between adults. It is just supposed to be a visual aid, not an end goal, for what you would normally like to see in real life, with the right access which often times people can be deprived of in any situation. If you rely too much on it, it can make actually weaken sexual desire/pleasure and feel shallow and crappy because you oversaturate yourself with too much imagery, which is the biggest problem imo, which is why its best to not overdo it.
There is nothing wrong with most consenting sex acts between two adults, its up to the person to find the fine line between what works for them and what is too much.
