I think this topic can be amusing. Yall know what time it is.
While I'm wholeheartedly to the creativity of Pixar, I want to have faith in DreamWorks. I really enjoy the occasional gems DreamWorks will put out, oddly more than Pixar. DreamWorks is potentially great, thus isn't inherently inferior to Pixar as fans may make it out to be. People will argue Monsters Inc is better than every DreamWorks film while Shrek is better than every other Pixar film. DreamWorks films does tend to feel filler-ly if you aren't carefully selective but is great when you want to get away from Pixar.

I'd go with Pixar. Pixar is better with maintaining a somewhat high quality, while DreamWorks can be very hit or miss. While I would say that DreamWorks has reached higher highs with their movies, they've also had lower lows. Pixar at least managed to have an era of consistently good movies.

Sorry to sit on the fence over this, but I actually don't believe there is a clear-cut answer. Pixar was consistently great from the period between the release of Toy Story in 1995 and Finding Nemo in '03. Every Pixar film released during that era remains iconic and was produced to an exceptionally high standard. Dreamworks' films were quite good for the most part as well, however Sinbad was a dud and The Road to El Dorado was alright without being great. Pixar definitely has the edge over Dreamworks when referring to the Late '90s/Early 2000s.
However, i'm of the belief that Dreamworks had the better output during the second-half of the 2000s. I loved Madagascar, Wallace & Gromit, Shrek 2 and Over the Hedge as a kid. Those were some of my all-time favourite childhood movies. In fact, I actually owned all of the Dreamworks Animation releases from the Mid-Late 2000s on DVD, with the only exception being Monsters vs Aliens. Pixar's films, on the other hand, were a real mixed-bag for me. I was never into Cars and The Incredibles; I've never actually seen the latter. The only Pixar film from that era which I really liked was WALL-E.

Pixar focuses on just Disney related films, while Dreamworks is not just tied to Disney. As a kid, I was fine with either, but now, I watch real people movies.

DreamWorks always striked me as bootleg Pixar with a more lowbrow take to me for the majority of their movies. Pixar, at least back in their golden age, has put out consistently great, engaging and varied movies throughout. Between 1995 and 2010, I can only point to "A Bug's Life" for being more forgettable and "Cars" for being a little too odd. DreamWorks in comparison has always been very hit-and-miss. I like "Madagaskar" well enough, I never really got into the "How to Train Your Dragon" series (probably released too late for me) and as much as I love "Shreck" as the next guy I always hated how much of a "mascot" he has basically become. In my opinion, he only works as a main character in the movie and not as an overexposed image.

DreamWorks gems:
* The Prince of Egypt * The Road to El Dorado * Shrek * Shrek 2 * Kung Fu Panda * Megamind * How To Train Your Dragon * Kung Fu Panda 2 * Puss In Boots * The Croods * How To Train Your Dragon 2 * Home * Kung Fu Panda 3 * Trolls * How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World * Abominable
The listed DreamWorks films are very escaping from DreamWorks filler movies and generally Pixar.

kev2000sfan Has the right word for Dreamworks, “filler”. Now that’s not to dismiss their work of quality because they’ve definitely done some. Pixar on the other hand has rested on their laurels here and there, but even when their stories have been bland, you still can’t say the films haven’t been beautiful. @mr. Shruggie also says it right with “bootleg” lmao. Dreamworks is like begging your parents to take you to Disney but them taking you to a local amusement park instead. It could be a really nice experience that is just as satisfying even if it isn’t quite as elaborate. You could also be one loose screw away from dying on the tilt-a-whirl or contracting hepatitis on the merry go round. You never really know until you’ve paid admission.

Aesthetically wise, both Trolls and Abominable are a step above most other DreamWorks movies. That's how I see it. Abominable at least feels mostly fresher.

I agree that Trolls isn't really too.. Its niche at best. Trolls is too colorful and movie's aesthetic becomes tedious to watch. It isn't really a DreamWorks gem.

Updated.
I can't stand Trolls. I want to appreciate it, but nah.
Top 5
1. The Prince of Egypt 2. Shrek 3. How To Train Your Dragon 4. Kung Fu Panda 5. The Croods
I would put in top 10
6. The Road To El Dorado 7. Puss In Boots 8. Home 9. Megamind 10. Abominable
The Boss Baby is complicated. The movie is well animated, but the idea is tedium. I would put Monsters Vs. Aliens, Shark Tale in the joke category.

Easily Pixar. Dreamworks films are edgier, but don't age as well, even Shrek I find to be overrated honestly. Kung Fu Panda and Megamind I like, but even they don't hold a candle to Pixar in my opinion.
Pixar movies just have a more imaginative atmosphere to them, better methods of storytelling, prettier music, and memorable characters that keep these movies as fresh as ever to go back to.
This is coming from someone like me who is critical of Disney as an organization.
