I would say Pixar and the reason why is because every Pixar movie I have seen projects a very complete plot or story as well as well-developed characters. For example, the first Toy Story movie showed Woody and Buzz's friendship with them having a feud with each other at the beginning of the movie but once the movie progresses, they form a mutual friendly bond and end up becoming pretty much partners which continues into the next three movies. It also showed how well Buzz first came to be as someone who he thought he was being a real life space ranger is realized that he is just a toy later on in the movie. The plot of the original Toy Story just seemed unique in a way. On one side you have Andy, the kid who appreciates his toys and takes good care of them while you have Sid who destroys the toys he gets his hands on or dismantles them and creates the creepy unusual toys that Woody and Buzz saw in Sid's house. Not only does Pixar creates good stories and characters it also excels on providing the audience emotion especially during the first few minutes of Up and Inside Out. By far Pixar is great at doing that.
DreamWorks, while having great movies like with Pixar, sometimes gets a little too cheesy and generic with the plots. If you compare How to Train Your Dragon to Madagascar those two are very different movies overall. One movie is adventurous while the other is comedic. HTTYD's plot seems very straightforward in all 3 movies and follows chronologically of Hiccup and Toothless meeting, growing up and their adventures they have together which makes the franchise, to me, the best in DreamWork's catalogue of movies. Madagascar on the other hand doesn't seem to follow that. It seems very random because the first movie was the animals being shipped off to Madagascar and eventually trying to find their way back home, the second movie revolves around Alex reuniting with his family in Africa for the first time since he was a cub and the third movie involves them being circus acts and trying to escape a French animal hunter. It kind of the same idea with Shrek.
Overall Pixar is better than DreamWorks.

I've been getting increasingly less impressed with Pixar, I think they're getting too big. They still win over Dreamworks because the animation remains beautiful but some of the stories haven't had the same heart for me.
