This might make for a fun thread. The year 2025 is still just over five years away and since we don't yet know what the Early 2020s will even be like, I thought it would be interesting if we made a few predictions as to what we think pop culture and the world in general will be like in 2025. It'll be funny to look back on this thread once we actually get to the year itself.
So, in your opinion, what do you think the year 2025 will be like? What music are we going to be listening to? Will Tik Tok, YouTube etc. still be popular then?

Music: A more mainstream accessible, "polished" sub-genre of bedroom-pop will start to emerge onto the charts. It will have the defining characteristics of bedroom-pop, however there will be more of a focus on the image rather than the substance of the music itself. It will basically be to bedroom-pop what "post-grunge" was to the original Seattle scene. Having been a popular genre in the Early 2020s, record labels will want to "cash in" on the new bedroom-pop sound and a new wave of bedroom-pop inspired artists will begin to achieve success in the mainstream. These artists will be heavily marketed and infuse elements into their music which weren't found in the releases by the original wave of bedroom-pop artists, such as auto-tune, a more "radio-friendly" chorus, hip-hop snares etc.
* An "alt-rap" sub-genre will be in existence. * There will be a global, transgender pop-star. * Spotify will still be the biggest music streaming service. * The Rolling Stones will have permanently retired from touring due to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards experiencing health complications. * Foo Fighters, Green Day and U2 will still be together and releasing new music. * Post Malone will have transitioned his sound away from hip-hop by this point.
Television: Television, and people's viewing habits in general, will be even more fragmented in 2025 than what they are now. Some streaming services which are in existence today (or are yet to come into existence) will not be around in five years from now. The streaming industry will reach an over-saturation point in the next few years (i'm predicting around 2022) and due to the strong competition from the abundance of streaming services on offer, some services will be forced to close down or merge with others as a result.
* Cable-TV will be on the brink of collapse. I'm sure Foxtel will still be around in 2025, however it will have an even smaller selection of channels on offer and subscriber base. I seriously doubt that it will still exist as a cable-TV service by the end of the 2020s. * Peter Overton and Cameron Williams will still be presenting Nine News Sydney. * Nine will still hold the broadcast rights to the Australian Open and the NRL.
Film: To combat the strong competition from streaming services, the film industry in the year 2025 will be even more reliant on reboots and sequels of established franchises as a means to lure people to go to the cinemas. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and superhero films in general will still be popular, but due to their longevity, familiarity and established plotlines, they won't be setting records at the Box Office like they have during the 2010s.
* There will be a "Mean Girls" reboot released this year. * A "James Bond" movie will be released in 2025, however it will have a female lead character. * The "Fast & Furious" series will still be in production.

These predictions are just random guesses that could be possible:
*The core 2020’s is in full effect by this time.
*Billie Eilish won’t be as popular during this time because music is starting to get more upbeat, while she’s still making slower-paced songs.
*Lil Nas X will still be popular. In fact, he’ll be to 2025 what Drake was to 2015.
*Speaking of Drake, he’ll still be somewhat relevant in 2025. Though there’ll be significantly less hit songs from him now.
*A democrat takes control of the white house. This democrat won’t be as socialist as Bernie or AOC. They’re going to be more moderate.
Speaking of Bernie, I predict he’ll probably pass away during the first half of 2025 due to his age.
*YouTube will still be available and will still exist, but it’ll be so awful by then that it starts to decline very rapidly and something better will replace it, but that replacement won’t be available until the year after.
*More millennial aged candidates start to run for president, though the vast majority of them will poll low and won’t have a good chance.
*Mumble rap and trap are finally dead this year.
*Politics will get a bit less divided. More people in 2025 will start to realize that the other side isn’t their enemy, but there will be a decent amount of people who still believe this, which would make this year a weird transition for politics (especially because if Trump wins in 2020, then we’ll have a new president by 2025)

*Lil Nas X will still be popular. In fact, he’ll be to 2025 what Drake was to 2015. It's interesting that you say that, because I would be very surprised if he is still popular in another twelve months from now. I think the success of "Old Town Road" will come back to haunt him in time. The song will forever be associated with the 'Country-Trap' fad of 2019 and because it will be the first thing that pops into people's minds whenever they think about his music, it pretty much resigns him to the fact that he'll never be able to top "Old Town Road". Everything Lil Nas X releases from this point on will instantly be perceived as being inferior. I think he will suffer the same fate as PSY.

There’s also a lot of rappers with a “Lil” in their name that had hit songs and then nobody ever heard from them again. I know it sounds kind of stupid, but if it weren’t for the “Lil” in his name like billions of other rappers, I feel like he’d have more potential to be more popular.

I think culture, for the USA, will be heavily directed and controlled by a right-wing authoritarian state in 2025. I predict more 1950s-style, sanitized entertainment, a huge shift in music, and much more conservative, conformist, formal fashion. That's the direction we are headed.

There was also talk though that the franchise was going to end shortly after Paul Walker passed away, so to be honest, this is one of those 'won't believe it until I see it' instances for me. The "Fast & Furious" franchise is still performing well enough at the box office for it to continue for another few years IMO. As for a possible "Mean Girls" reboot, i'm not really basing that on anything, however I think it's almost inevitable that a reboot will happen at some point. It's one of the most iconic films of the 2000s. I could definitely see a reboot being in the works around the time of the 20th anniversary of the original film.

My god, you need help so fucking bad. You are seriously only making posts about your exaggerated and paranoid politics. Because it dominates everything in this backwards, bigoted, hateful, despicable time to be alive. 2019 is hell on earth if you aren't white, heterosexual, conservative, and fundamentalist Christian. It's not just Oklahoma either. The Christian Right has hijacked the entire country and is ready to destroy democracy so they can impose their theocracy. It's over.

I'm a brown skinned Muslim living in the South and I'm doing perfectly okay. I have a few white friends who are conservative, I don't share their views but they showed me respect and didn't care about the way I look and believe. You need to accept the fact that this white, christian, heterosexual paradise you are clamoring about is over since the 1960s. White supremacy still exists but millions of people have been doing every job to counteract that ideology. The fact that you paint Christians as an enemy is rather disgusting and malicious in every possible way and I seriously hope you get help immediately.

Half the country wants those days back and they are one SCOTUS justice away from making it happen. The Christian Right is currently the most powerful force this country has ever seen and I think right now, they are unstoppable. I don't think racism is going to be as bad though, but there will be significant discrimination against non-WASP cultures. Not all Christians belong to the Christian Right, but in the near future, Christians who aren't fundamentalist enough and who aren't rigid enough on enforcing Biblical law will be the enemy of the state in the US along with atheists and anyone else who refuses to conform. It's that dire.

Jokes about how depressed you are will be considered cringe. A lot of the late 2010s culture will be seen as cringe and early 2010s/late 2000s nostalgia will be beginning. Humor will be post post post post ironic. The alt scene of today will become mainstream and even straight girls will have that really cute lesbian aesthetic of 2020. It always seems like the LGBT crowd is ahead when it comes to fashion and culture. Think about how skinny jeans were considered “gay” in the 2000s and in the mid 2010s everyone was saying things like “and that’s the tea sis” or “yaaaaas queen.”
