Yeah I’m pretty sure the late era will be remembered for emo rap, trap, and the beginnings of bedroom pop.

Future bass and the rise of those chopped up vocals (they were already pretty big in the mid-2010s but they exploded in widespread usage in the late 2010s).

Late 2016 to Late 2018 was ok. Future Bass, DJ-Snake beats, dancehall, bubblegum pop and Trap, Latin pop, and Imagine-Dragons style rock were great genres. It's just that mumble rap almost ruined it.
2019 music in general is just awful. The decline of EDM and happy beats, and the rise of Emo-trap and lo-fi were too cynical for my taste. Alt/Indie pop from Billie Eilish was ok, some songs I did like from her, but once again, too dark.

What's wrong with lo fi? I found it quite refreshing, actually. And I hate Imagine Dragons - talk about bland and uninspired.

Mainstream pop music is darker, depressing, and overall, not very versatile. All I see nowadays on the charts are EDM pop and Trap.
