The disgraced mogul reached an agreement on the same day he went to a court hearing and surprised onlookers by using a walker ahead of his rape trial. After two years of legal wrangling, Harvey Weinstein and the board of his bankrupt film studio have reached a tentative $25 million settlement agreement with dozens of his alleged sexual misconduct victims, a deal that would not require the Hollywood producer to admit wrongdoing or pay anything to his accusers himself, according to lawyers involved in the negotiations.
The $25 million payouts to Weinstein’s accusers come as part of a total $47 million settlement intended to “close out the company’s obligations” for The Weinstein Company, according to the Times. If the settlement is reached, it would effectively end almost every lawsuit against Weinstein and his former company.
Weinstein’s criminal trial is scheduled to begin on Jan. 6, 2020. His bail was increased to $5 million on Wednesday.
