This is a topic that has been loosely talked about on Popedia from time to time, however I don't believe we've actually had a thread asking for people's views on gun ownership. Since this is such a divisive topic (especially in the United States) and a large proportion of our community comes from the States, I would be interested to see if most of our American members are "pro-guns" or want to see tighter regulations in place.
What are your views on this?

I believe any gun measures should be passed by the city government, and not the state or federal government.
The main reason the 2nd Amendment exists is to allow the American people to take up revolution against the government if they become tyrannical.

People have the right to bear arms and protect themselves IMO. I don’t think guns should be very easy to get, but I also think making the process too strict could be a bad thing too. I feel like with all the mass shootings today it’s easy to say guns are the problem, but most of the time it’s the people who don’t use it correctly. I still think some gun regulation is needed, as long as it doesn’t infringe on the second amendment.

You wanna know why that guy became a school shooter? Because he's getting bullied at school. Because school officials don't give a shit.
Let the citizens keep their guns. Gun control won't work.

I'm fine with people owning guns. Our country just needs to do a better job with keeping them out of the hands of crazy people. We've gotten to a point where the fallout of mass shootings have become a predictable cycle. Shooting happens, mass coverage with the shooters name and face plastered everywhere, everyone gives "thoughts and prayers", politicians argue about the second amendment, and then nothing happens.

People have the right to bear arms and protect themselves IMO. Sorry, but I disagree. I can understand people wanting to protect themselves if they are under threat, but there shouldn't be a need for people to "bear arms" in the first place and I really don't understand why so many Americans feel as though guns have to be apart of their lives in some shape or form. Everyday people don't need firearms. IMO, they should only be accessible to the police and other authorized people.

Everyday people don't need firearms. IMO, they should only be accessible to the police and other authorized people. You're Australian so you probably wouldn't understand, but guns can be useful in dangerous situations where one has to defend themselves. If some murderer with a knife broke into your house at night, would you be safer running away or with a gun to protect yourself? Like I said, it's easy to blame guns when there's a lot of mass shootings, but guns can actually be useful and I'm glad we have the 2A over here.
