It's a matter of perspective really. Is it more important to stop government interference in our lives? Or do we need to pay more attention to social equality? Because I don't believe tolerance is government mandated.

If gay was replaced with black the black community would be up in arms. Most of the black community is still behind when it comes to gay marriage. I'm a former muslim guy now I'm spiritual. I can tell you that most religions view on homosexuality is rooted in homophobia. They believe if you're gay or anything but straight you go straight to hell (no pun intended) My parents are the type of people who'd kick me out of the family if I came out as gay. In essence, private businesses shouldn't give special treatments to privileged people and deny benefits to disadvantaged groups. That's no good . How strict are your parents?

Mentally I left Islam when I was a preteen but I was still under my parent's belt so I had to abide by their rules. I was abused by my conservative religious parents who demand I go to church and pray every night or else I got my ass whooped. They wouldn't let me become friends with the opposite sex and eating pork was a death sentence. If I invited a friend over and my parents suspect they're gay, they were kicked out and for me that meant losing a friend and getting grounded. I wasn't allowed to show any support for the lgbtq community and I wasn't allowed to invite any gay or trans people over. Now that I'm 18 and can finally make my own decisions I'm no longer part of that toxic culture anymore. I worry what the future holds for my 10 year old brother.

It's truly sad when people use religion to their advantage to harm others. I'm all for freedom of religion, however, there is a limit & discriminating LGBT folks is never acceptable. I hope your little brother can look up to you as a fellow role model.

My little brother is at an age where he doesn't know too much about the world yet and so he follows my parents religion and beliefs. I don't care if he grows to be religious but I just don't want him being a bigot to people who are different from him.

It's important to teach him that LGBT folks are just like everyone else & are deserving of the same dignity & respect.

Yes. I believe in freedom of religion for all. If I were to run a baking company, I would just serve straight people. My religion does not concur with same-sex marriage. Wow thats rude. Maybe you should reconsider your attitude and also the possible effects your actions can have on non straight people before you discriminate for no reason My mother instructed me to respect everybody. I treat gay individuals the same way I do with straight individuals. While I may not concur with their lifestyle, I respect them as people simply like any other person. I don't support the Westboro Baptist Church in any way.

Bakers should be allowed to reject black customers if they can reject gay/lesbians. Though people would call that racist .

Typically when this happens, the bakers aren’t necessarily turning away customers looking to buy their products, as much as they are denying them a service, ie: writing a lgbtq message. Businesses deny services they do not wish to perform all of the time, and they miss out on revenue because of it. I don’t see how we can force a private business to do work they are not interested in. A bakery may have many other designs they regularly turn down as well.
This is an area where I think people need to speak with their wallets rather than having the government intervene. Disagree with their practices? Leave bad reviews, tell your friends not to buy from there; word of mouth travels fast and can be devastating to a small business.
