It's 12.20am in this part of the world, so you all know what that means...we're now in the last day of the 2010s. I don't exactly have anything planned for today. I was originally going to go for a drive and possibly take a few photos, however it's forecast to get to 36C here and the smoke haze will more than likely still be lingering around. Staying in the air conditioning at home is the best option I think, lol.

I still have one more day left in my timezone (EST). I'm gonna savor it.

Two more days here. On one hand I say good riddance to this decade from hell. On the other hand, there are aspects of it I will really miss, especially the early part of the decade. I absolutely cannot see myself missing the second half of this decade.
For those who don't want the '10s to end, I'm convinced the '20s is going to be one of those decades where the previous decade's culture lingers into the new decade, much like the 1960s and 1990s.

It's weird to think that we won't be in the same decade as years like 2012 and 2015 but such is life.

It's not even over and I'm already nostalgic. Hipsters were the coolest people ever.

The 2010s ended in like 2018 tbh. I wouldn't be surprised to see this 2018/2019 culture last to 2024 or so since the trends are fresh. I expect Trump to be re-elected too so there's that. But we have the PS5 to look forward to in 2021.

I really miss the movies and TV of that era. I think 2012-16 is a very underrated time for cinema. The late '10s with all of the sequels and reboots just haven't compared.

The fundamentalist Christian Right in the US is on fire right now and younger people seem to have their heads in the sand. Why there isn't mass protesting in the streets going on is something I just can't understand. Right now, all of our futures' are at stake especially if you live in the US. This is a reality that in 2015 nobody would have thought possible. I think one of the biggest lessons of the late '10s is that the "more tolerant, more secular" future we've all believed was coming is not guaranteed. As somebody who grew up fundamentalist Baptist, seeing this theocratic takeover of the US play out in real time is terrifying. I know very well the future they want because I used to be on their side. I had an "America Bless God" bumper sticker on my car when I was in high school and believed that I was part of the generation that would "reclaim America for Christ." I worry that the 2020s are going to bring a break-up of the US, a civil war, an economic collapse, and/or a theocratic tyrannical regime in the US.

I'm not too excited about the early 2020s. They will probably just be an extension of late 2010s culture.

I think the 2010s have been great for movies throughout. Admittedly I'm not the biggest movie buff, but it feels like every month that a 95%+ movie on RottenTomatoes comes out. Sure there are a lot of sequels and reboots, but I don't think it's been at the expense of original material, at least not yet. 2010 and 2014 are my favourite years for movies this decade.

I think Trump will win New Hampshire, Maine and maybe even Minnesota in 2020, and he'll win back the House. It's going to be worse than 2016. But I've rescinded myself to it, and focus my energies on other positive things. It must suck to actually have to deal with the consequences of all that.

2020 is probably not gonna feel like a new era of pop culture in the early months of it, but I sure do hope that the later months will set up some signs of 2020s identity.

I doubt that Trump wins New Hampshire, Maine, or Minnesota but I guess anything is possible. Of course that all changes if a third-party spoiler candidate runs. I think it's going to shake out like this, but with Trump losing even more of the popular vote than he did last time, barely winning the electoral college. EDIT: I realized in the first map that I gave Nevada to Trump when it's highly unlikely that it will not be a blue state. It could be an electoral college tie, with Mike Pence getting to be the tiebreaker vote. www.270towin.com/maps/N8WZG

There's no way 2020's culture was already happening in 2018.
