I don't understand why this song has become such a huge hit over the past few days. There's nothing original about this, yet with the rave reviews it has been receiving, you would think that it's a Nevermind moment. It isn't actually bad per se, but the alt-pop sound is so long in the tooth. Can we please just leave this style behind in the 2010s? I’m so sick of this style of music being popular now. It’s not 2016 anymore. I want someone more upbeat. Something that sounds new. When will people realize that the current musical charts are stagnating? I mean, sooner or later, people are going to want something new. I agree. I'd say this sound had it's origins in 2013, though this song specifically sounds very 2016/17. Anyways, is this that big of a hit? As far as a new sound, in past decades it was during stagnant times like this that something new and big was just around the corner. However, with the influence of the Internet, TikTok, the fact there is no longer monoculture, and the fact pop music today is about corporate interests first and foremost, who knows if that will happen?

Anyways, is this that big of a hit? It reached number 1 in a couple of countries including the US and the UK, and probably more in the coming weeks. So yeah, it's pretty much the first big hit of this year.

That's why I stopped listening to chart toppers or the radio and just dove headfirst into the world of internet music, like vaporwave and stuff. That being said, I do wonder if the dawn of the Biden era might lead to a little more bombast and exuberance in the popular music of 2021 and beyond. After all, it was the hope and change of the Obama years that really kicked off electropop. Even when the international economy seemed to be crumbling around us, I think everyone was just so glad to be rid of Bush that Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas were able to kick up the party tracks.

This is one of my least favourite songs of 2020 and for reasons which I don't understand, it's still lingering near the Top-10 despite no longer receiving much radio airplay and being on the charts for almost 25 weeks. It's such a bitter and spiteful song. I don't have an issue with songs that deal with relationship issues for as long as the singer can genuinely pull the lyrics off, but the vocal delivery is so cold. There's no heart or real emotion in this. Your boyfriend cheated on you for another girl, where's the emotional angst or anguish over what he has done? Prove to us that you actually feel broken as a person, give the lyrics some actual meaning!
I wish I could verbally abuse the Australian public for allowing Tones & I to achieve yet another huge hit. Seriously, why is this untalented hack being given any attention? What do people see in her and her music? I think the way in which her career took off is a real insult to the hard-working musicians who are especially doing it tough during the pandemic. She busked on the streets in one of the wealthiest towns in Australia (Chris Hemsworth lives there, ffs) and made false claims about facing hardships, which wrongfully earned her the 'sympathy vote' from members of the public. Now she's a filthy rich millionaire who has a contract with Sony Music Australia.

Thanks to Triple J, there's a rock song currently at #8 on the ARIA Chart for this week. It's alright, I hope it gains traction and becomes a proper hit.

Australians can't get enough of Machine Gun Kelly it seems. "My Ex's Best Friend" has re-entered the Top-50 after being out of the Top-50 for over a month! Also, "Booster Seat" is at #13 for this week, which is good. I was expecting it to drop down to the bottom-half of the Top-50. Edit: "My Ex's Best Friend" seems to now be doing well over in the US too.

It's sad seeing a band as talented as Green Day continuing to release subpar material. They've been on a downward trajectory since 21st Century Breakdown.

Yes, this song wasn't super great. I know that they can do better, but I did like it a bit. At least it's stuck in my head.

I know the rest of you probably don't like this kinda stuff, but Bruno Mars's latest collab is a bop for fogies like me:

Yeah, it's like one of those '70s R&B hits by someone like Percy Sledge or Tavares. I'm 100% Motown, so I'm into it.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Imagine Dragons, however i'm really enjoying this new song they released a couple of weeks ago. The chorus has such an infectious melody and it has become a bit of an earworm for me. I'm surprised by how abysmally this is performing on the charts. I can understand why the much more experimental and 'out-there' "Cutthroat" isn't charting (it's the most experimental song Imagine Dragons have released to date), but "Follow You" is very much in the same vein as many of their earliest hit singles. I guess people have lost interest in them?
