2013 was a unique year of its own and had nothing to do with the mid 2010s or the early 2010s for that matter. If I had to choose which it leaned more towards than I would aay early 2010s but it was so completely different from both eras and a unique era on its own. 2013 definitely is not like the mid 2010s though. That's why I'm surprised so many people voted for mid 2010s.

Pretty much this. It had a different energy than both the early 10s and mid 10s. Still leaned more early 10s overall

- mid 10s artist like Ariana Grande, Migos and 5th harmony start to come out and trap starts to really become the dominant sound in hip hop

trap became the dominant sound in 2012 IMO but the rest is good.

I wouldn't say that makes it mid 10s tho. Early 10s trap and Mid 10s trap are different, it just happened to take over hip hop part way through it's Early 10s part.

yeah you’re right, trap did really become the dominant sound in 2012 rather than 2013, but what i meant or should’ve said was that trap in 2013 starts to lean more towards the mid 2010s style or what would become it. there were still some early 10s sounding trap in 2013 which is why that year is mixed but more mid 10s style trap became noticeable that year

I remember I started hearing trap in the mainstream charts around 2014 maybe late 2013. It was around before then, you could find trap even in 2011, but it really blew up in 2014.

hard to believe you weren't hearing "Mercy" by Kanye, "The Motto" by Drake and "Rack City" by Tyga in 2012, or "F*ckin Problems" by ASAP Rocky, "Started from the Bottom" by Drake and "My N*gga" by Rich Homie Quan in 2013...

Those songs were everywhere, esp if you were going to basketball games. Trap blew up right around the start of 2012 atleast IMO, maybe just my experience as a kid back then.

Originally, I would've said mid-2010's but looking back, 2013 looks a lot more early-2010's than given credit for, despite strong mid-2010's influences being present.
