2013 Cultural Debate: Was it more early 2010s or mid 2010s?

Early 2010s.

Exactly. Based on my own personal experience, 2015 felt different from 2017. I'm trying not to be biased, especially because I was in middle school in 2015 and already in high school by 2017, but I feel like so much has changed just between those two years.

2015: Vine is still at its peak.

2017: Vine has closed.


2015: People are still using Skype to video chat because Discord wasn't released until May 2015, but it didn't get popular yet.

2017: Discord has basically taken over, and Skype is now seen as a thing of the past.


2015: Kik is still a popular texting app.

2017: Kik is seen as a thing of the past. Instagram DMing and Snapchatting has basically taken over.


2015: Rappers like Fetty Wap are very popular

2017: Rappers like 6ix9ine and Lil Pump are very popular.

When you think about it, the difference between 2015 and 2017 is quite noticeable.

2003 was more early 2000s than 2013 was early 2010s.

Kik was popular in Canada from 2011-2013. After that WhatsApp became popular. I think Vine might have been targetted towards Gen Z or people who were in high school then. I don't remember it being a big deal.

Well, I didn't make a huge preface to my post about my demographic for nothing.

In my post I said Snapchat took off in 2013, but it didn't make much of a splash in my social circle of early 20s tech bros (I majored in Physics and most my friends were in engineering). To elaborate, when I got Snapchat my friends said "Isn't that app for teenage girls?" and "isn't that for sexting?" Basically if Snapchat failed to catch on there's no way I'm going to be caring about Vine. I can imagine Vine was popular with younger people though. On Wikipedia it says there was even a "Vine Kids" app.

There's also the fact that Tinder is 18+. This app was/is huge for my age group in 2012/2013. It completely changed life forever. It might not register for people under 18 at the time though.

I only know Paul Logan because @bchris02 was crushing on him in 2017 LOL. But that was after Vine. From what I remember when Vine shut down in 2016, it was already dead for a while before that.

When I turned 16 on 8th December 2013, It was already fully Mid 2010s era.It began from September 2013 when the Mid 2010s fully took over the Early 2010s.
So it goes like this.I will began it from Early 2010s. As an Early Z or Y/Z Cusp leaning towards Y or Late Y or Early Z or whatsoever. It still depends.

Late 2009-Mid 2011-Transition from Late 2000s to Early 2010s culture Post Recession Era.At that time, multitudes of countries are trying to recover the economy after the occurance of recession in Fall 2008.At that time, The Electropop Era has taken over the Rock and Emo songs which cause their downfall or waning age of Rock and Emo songs happened at that time. Justin Bieber exploded in that era with One Times and most importantly Baby. Katy Perry release a song called Firework in 2010. I remember how the songs sounds like. And Kesha has just released a song called Tik Tok at that time. And Kobe Won the Last Rings with LA Lakers.And LeBron James and Kobe already became a thing at that time.And The Decision happened at that time.My dad told me that LeBron has just moved to Miami Heat.And He and his team lost to the Mavs in 2010-11 Season at that time.I was extremely upset at that time as he was my favourite basketball players of all time.And He is still my favourite basketball player of all time even though I do not agree with him on certain things that he does for the franchise like the Cavs and Lakers on the court.  The worst basketball performance that was ever executed by a Superstar in the Final is still LeBron Raymone James Sr.Obama is still a trend.I became at fan of SNSD at that time period. Late 2011-Mid 2013- Early 2010s Culture with Mid 2010s rising like GSW explosion,Mid 2010s' EDM rising and etc. Obama is no longer a trend. The Boyfriend,Gangnam Style,Beauty and A Beat Song and Gentleman Era.And also I Got A Boy by SNSD Exploded by obtaining the video of the year in Youtube Musics Awards in 2013.And I am a fan of Kpop but I am not a fan of SNSD at that time.In fact, I am a hater of them. Windows 8 was release at that time period.The Rise of Obama's 2nd Term.The Olympics and Paralympics 2012 Era,Skyfall Era.Back to Back Championship for The Heat.(BIg 3 Heat)(LBJ and the Miami Heat)

Late 2013- Early/Mid 2015- Mid 2010s culture Era Part 1 with Wreckling Ball,Roar,Dark Horse,Hangover,All about that Bass,Worth it, 1989-Taylor Swift's Era and etc(if you are a kpop
s fan,you would know Mr Mr,Party,lionheart,you think and etc).Fully Obama's Second Term Era. Vine Era,LeBron James Vine Era. LeBron's final time with the Heat.Windows 8.1 was released at that time.LeBron goes back to Cavs.And at that time, I have just returned to be a fan of SNSD at that time period.(Spurs won in 2014 and Warriors won in 2015).The 2014 Winter Olympics.

Mid/Late 2015-Mid 2016/2017(Rainbowz please help me about it)-Mid 2010s culture Era Part 2 with Late 2010s rising like The Donald Trump's Era Part 1 or Donald Trump is on the rise at that time period and Late 2010s songs like Closer if I am not mistaken. The Sorry, Put my hands to Myself, One Call Away,52 years of drought is over(3-1 lead),We Don't talk anymore,This is what you came for,Dont Let Me Down,Let Me love you,Work from Home by Fifth Harmony and etc Era )  It was at that moment Windows 10 was released with(1507,1511,1607 or 1703). Spectre and Pokemon Go Era.And I have never ever played Pokemon Go before. The Olympics and Paralympics 2016 Era.
